And an extra benefit of these new rules will hopefully be to reduce children's exposure to unhealthy food ads on social media - as evidence shows that company voluntary pledges and commitments are weak and ineffective.

Sadly, health promotion didn’t make it into Ursula von der Leyen’s #SOTEU speech today. Yet this is precisely where the EU can make a difference: shaping the conditions that make healthier choices possible in everyday life. 5/5

MEPs highlighted the critical role of #FoodEnvironments in shaping what people eat. 🍐 🫘 🥕 🫛 Only 12% of Europeans eat their '5 a day', while eating fruits and veg daily and a "reasonable” amount of meat (i.e. less than what Europeans currently eat...) will benefit heart health. 2/5

🛑 Stop blaming people for unhealthy diets. If the unhealthy choice is the cheapest, most available and most heavily advertised option, can we really say it’s just about individual responsibility? That’s the message MEPs sent today when voting on a resolution on the EU Safe Hearts Plan🫀 1/5

It's no secret that Members of the EU Parliament are lobbied by many interest groups when discussing laws - here the Common Agricultural Policy. But it's always funny when they omit to delete their 'source' (here COPA-COGECA, a farmers lobby, opposing plans to tie CAP payments to green obligations).
