The best Phone game I ever bought is still cranking out updates, including holiday themed items; and I was surprisingly touched to be wished "Happy Pride" by ShatteredPixelDungeon @shatteredpixel.com

"Rainbow Potion

This colorful potion is a kind of liquid food. In addition to satisfying your hunger, it has a little magic in it which will calm an adjacent non-boss enemy, making them temporarily hesitant to fight you.

Happy Pride!"

Does a Sperm Whale have the Buddha nature? Does Moby Dick specifically?
Zen And The White Whale, Daniel Herman (2014) Chapter 10: Ishmael's Medatation.

Tranquility is not some dreamy attempt to remove oneself from the world that surrounds us, but a state of keen awareness of sense faculties and mental consciousness. Ishmael explores this awareness in fascinating detail-partic ularly from the Queequeg chapters onward, as he begins to explore his new psychological sensitivities, documenting both the ephemeral nature of thought and his increasing compassion toward the world:

"As I walked away, I was full of thoughtfulness; what had been incidentally revealed to me of Captain Ahab, filled me with a certain wild vagueness of painfulness concerning him. And somehow, at the time, I felt a sympathy and sorrow for him, but for I don't know what, unless it was the cruel loss of his leg. And yet I also felt a strange awe of him; but that sort of awe, which I cannot at all describe, was not exactly awe; I do not know what it was."

As the restless quest progresses, and Ishmael does indeed come to know Ahab, he nonetheless remains serene, imperturbable, "divinely free of ill-will," amidst the furious tumult everywhere surrounding him. Ishmael is himself the "enchanted calm which they say lurks at the heart of every commotion."" The only other figures described in similar terms are, again, Queequeg, and also the sperm whales, who swim with "a gentle joyous-ness-a mighty mildness of repose in swiftness... that great majesty... this serenity... that quietude... calm, enticing calm... serene tranquilities... exceeding rapture."

On our second day in Paris, we found a shady spot in the otherwise blinding paths of the Jardin Luxembourg. We spotted a wagtail near one of the statues and spent some time admiring both and trying to make sense of the symbolism before thinking to find the meaning of the statue using our phones.
The Delacroix Monument (French: Monument à Delacroix) is a memorial to the French artist Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863). It is located in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.

The image shows the vertigris copper sculpture surrounded by a small fountain pond. Three figures are in movement before a bust of the artist in question. A frontal view of the monument. Starting at the bottom, three figures celebrate first a clapping youth with laurels and a lyre, a winged old man with a sickle lifting up a topless young woman who is placing a frond of leaves on the bust pedestal. Eugène Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People, 1830.

A bare-breasted “woman of the people” with a Phrygian cap personifying the concept and Goddess of Liberty, accompanied by a young boy brandishing a pistol in each hand, leads a group of various people forward over a barricade and the bodies of the fallen while holding aloft the flag of the French Revolution—the tricolour,

3. As his father returns to raking, Calvin responds "No I won't, you will."

4. "Me?" replies Calvin's father looking non-plussed as Calvin announces "I just want to inherit it." and walks away.

By the time I reached the back of the building, and saw in detail La Convention Nationale éclairée, and behind it La Gloire" by Detaille I was pretty enraptured and overcome.
La Convention Nationale éclairée a close up of the revolutionary footmen, the drummers with detailed young faces. A wider shot showing more of the figure in the statues. At the center is a personification of France, in the foreground from this angle are foot soldiers surrounding a napoleonic figure. An enormous tryptic called Vers la Gloire (English: Forward Glory). It was painted by Jean Baptiste Édouard Detaille.

It's enormously tall depicting charging cavalry in a curving stream across heavenly clouds and beneath the figure of 'glory' on a white winged horse holding laurels aloft.

When entering the building for the first time I felt in awe of architecture. Even the grandest churches back home were only able to compete in terms of size. (The churches I attended were mostly built of corrugated steel and concrete, like a warehouse.)
shot of the interior of the Panthéon, from near the entrance, the perspective allows for a glimpse of the details of stone tile work floors, the intricate corinthian columns, the vast length of the building and some of the paintings on the ceiling. In the far distance is a statue "La Convention Nationale éclairée"

*À LA MÉMOIRE DES ARTISTES DONT LE NOM S'EST PERDU* The title and inscription alone caused me to catch my breath, when I noticed the laborers carrying a block of stone I was overcome. I tried to point out that detail and my voice failed.
A closer image of the same statue as above. A bass relief depicts several layers of various artists and artisans, the detail given to the workers and the central laborers carrying a stone block made my eyes begin to water, I tried to point it out to my wife and my voice caught in my throat.

In that moment - I can't describe it. I felt a connection to the subject so visceral that it transcends my understanding of reality. It felt spiritual in a way I don't believe in anymore; and never felt in my religious upbringing a stirring of my soul so clear and insistent as this.

I really should have taken more pictures in Paris. (I cannot locate good pictures of all of the sublime sights) The Panthéon was a religious experience; perhaps the first I've had since losing my faith, this sculpture, a moment of which was encountering this sculpture by Paul Landoski
This monument is dedicated "TO THE MEMORY OF THE ARTISTS WHOSE NAMES HAVE BEEN LOST".

• The work, created by Paul Landowski between 1912 and 1914, honors ordinary, unknown individuals rather than revolutionary figures.
• It features two Atlas-like figures supporting an urn, with a Latin inscription at the base that translates to "To the guardians of the eternal flame, whose works are held in glory, whose names have fallen into oblivion".
• The monument serves as a representation of discussions about memory at the time, drawing parallels to the "unknown soldier" honored in the Pantheon and later placed under the Arc de Triomphe.

Bonze Age Collapse is much more interesting and feels like the sort of history we are doomed to repeat.
Something like 32000 ago famines and the collapse of trade-routes providing essential tin to bronze-based economies seems to have caused just about everyone in the Mediterranean to go raider and sac everything. Only Egypt survived this upheaval, and it was broken to an extent that it never regained its former power.

This scene from the north wall of Medinet Habu is often used to illustrate the Egyptian campaign against the Sea Peoples, in what has come to be known as the Battle of the Delta (c. 1175 BC),[1] during the reign of Ramesses III. While accompanying hieroglyphs do not name Egypt's enemies, describing them simply as being from "northern countries", early scholars noted the similarities between the hairstyles and accessories worn by the combatants and other reliefs in which such groups are named.

I haven't noticed a lot of headlines about the trucking Ceo that was stealing from his employees.
Recently released court records show that the CEO who was allegedly murdered by his own driver owed the man a “substantial amount of money”.

46-year-old ATG Truckload CEO, Dane Koteski, was found “lying face down in a pool of blood” in his office as it burned on March 5th in Crestwood, Illinois. On Sunday, March 16th, 53-year-old Josif Suclea, a truck driver for ATG, was charged with first-degree murder for the incident. Now, court documents point to a potential motive for the serious crime.

According to ABC 7, Suclea was a long-time truck driver for ATG, and Koteski had recently told him that ATG “was going bankrupt.” Koteski also “owed a substantial amount of money to Suclea,” but “was unable to pay him.”

Security footage shows Suclea following Koteski into the company office at 2:37 p.m. on March 5th. Koteski is then seen stepping into another room to take a phone call, and Suclea follows him. There was then allegedly a “brief struggle and then crying is heard from the room.” Koteski can be heard asking “why?” and Suclea responds “I had to.” When asked, the person on the other end of the phone described hearing “scuffling and muffling and then the victim’s phone went dead.” The phone was later found “in a trash bin in the ATG [Truckload] office” with “a bloody fingerprint.”

Suclea then fled the scene in an ATG Freightliner semi truck, and was tracked to a truck stop in Holland, Michigan, where he was arrested and found “in possession of a large folding knife.” Investigators later found “blood on the steering wheel” and on the truck floorboards. It has since been determined that Koteski’s throat was cut.

Suclea is currently being held without bail in Cook County and has a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, March 18th. He has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment. It is unclear when he was diagnosed. There are no records of ATG Truckload formally filing for bankruptcy.

I finally got around to watching Color Out of Space (2019) and it's cool to finally see H.P. Lovecraft get a solid big screen treatment, and they do a good job of filming the unfilmable. Not my favorite story, but an excellent adaptation.
Promotional image for Color Out of Space (2019) sci-fi horror film based on H. P. Lovecraft's short story. The image features a rural home nestled in a forest that is suspended in a formless void, with distant stars visible along the edges. A figure stands before the home with a beam of pink energy hitting the figure and splitting the image in half. One half is the face of Nicolas Cage wearing glasses and a distant, vacant expression. His skin has red markings on it. The other half of the image are the faces of the wife, and daughter characters.
