First plunge, then shake. Works best if your human is within striking distance.
A red dog, the mad puppy, is standing in a shallow river. He is soaked to the skin after splashing in the river water, and he is shaking vigorously. His head is at an angle and surrounded by a whirlwind of flying water droplets. The sun is reflecting off his wet coat. He is a happy pup.

Seacliff beach, East Lothian
A photo looking north along Seacliff beach. There is a huge curve of orange sand framed by black cliffs to the left, and Tantallon Castle stands on the further point of the cliffs, looking grandly out to sea. On the right, the sea is grey and moody, with white frothed waves breaking onto the sand. The sky is all grey but streaked with different shades, purple through to white. The atmosphere is slightly dark, slightly moody, really beautiful. The next phoot looks south alon Seacliffe beach. The sand is now curving on the right of the photo, and the grey sea rolls in from the left. There are more rocks in this direction, both on the shore and in the sea. The rocks are covered in barnacles and seaweed. A small lighthouse marks the furthest point of invasion of the rocks into the sea.The last photo is very similar to the first, looking up the beach towards Tantallon Castle, high on the cliffs. This photo has zoomed in a little, so the only sand visible is very wet sand beneath the breaking waves, immediately in front of the camera, and this sand is reflecting the grey sky. Right in the centre of the photo is a small puppy, running towards the camera, proudly holding a bright red ball in his mouth.

The magnolia tree behind my building at work is just beginning to flower, and it's fantastic -
A close-up view of magnolia flowers on branches overhead, with blue sky above. The flowers are just opening up and are deep magenta at the base and white at the tips, really beautiful

I promise she's still alive...
Photo shows the crazy dog now choosing a warmer place to nap: on the bed. My bed, not hers. This is not an approved location.

Heavy frost this morning, and what looked like a murder scene outline on the grass...
Photo shows the edge of my garden, with deep, white frost over the grass. In the middle of the grass is an area where the frost has been melted by the crazy dog lying down for an early morning nap. She has left a perfect imprint of her body, legs, head, even her tail. A zoomed in photo, showing the imprint of dog body in the frost more clearly.

The joy of a long, empty beach. Yellowcraig, East Lothian.
My dog is bounding along the beach, and the photo captures her mid-bounce, looking a little like a kangroo, back legs frimly planted in the sand and front legs up in the air, leaping forward. Her ears are flying backwards (with speed, she'd say) and her mouth is open in a broad grin. Two steps further forward, my dog is now so close to me that she knocked me over a second after the photo was taken. Her front legs are down, her ears are flying upwards like Dumbo, and her face is still grinning. She looks delightedly happy.

I'm very pleased to have two lab positions open this week, to join our team looking at immune regulation in infection and co-infection. We're especially interested in tissue-based immunity, cytokine regulation and immune metabolism. Join us! Postdoc (3y) and research technician (12mo) posts open.
We're based in the Ashworth Laboratories, King's Buildings, University of Edinburgh. Photo shows the main staircase in the entrance to the Ashworth, stone steps from the 1920s, decorated with a series of bright, colurful banners depicting the science that's tackled in the building.

In the middle of everything, the snowdrops are out. These are at the brilliantly-named Cringletie House Hotel, near Peebles, in the Scottish Borders.
Picture shows a large patch of snowdrops, carpeting the woodland floor. The white snowdrop flowers are surrounded by brown leaves and twigs on the floor, and the edge of the photo show tall pine trees, so tall that their tops are far above the crop of the photo.

The joy of a walk in snow. She's 11 now, but doesn't always remember. Pentland Hills, near Edinburgh.

"Enough of the vegetables. Where's the cheese?"
Turning away from the vegetables, I caught my dog staring at me with disgust. She is a red, hairy retriever type dog with white highlights on her face from age. The photo show her standing in the door of the kitchen, frowning at the camera.

The first beginnings of the lab Christmas dinner -
A close-up photo of chopped vegetables, ready for roasting. It's a collection of red and yellow peppers, green courgette and orange sweet potato, mixed in a bit of oil for extra shine. Agreed - a bizarre choice of photograph - but I like the colours!

On a day when much heavier things were discussed, I give you professional level stick carrying. (1) cigar-style nonchalance (2) two! (3) inside?!
Photo of a retriever type dog, staring straight at the camera with tail high and cheerful, wide eyes. She has not one but two sticks in her mouth, held right at the end, like a smoker. She is standing with these sticks in my kitchen, with cupboards and drawers behind her, which is completely not allowed. Her expression does not suggest great concern.

Sunday morning vibes. Tyninghame beach, near Dunbar, Scotland.
A wide-angle photograph of a single dog on a wide, empty beach. Bass rock is visible, small on the horizon. The sea on the right is rolling with small, gentle waves. The main expanse of sand is bright blue, in reflection of the solid blue sky. The dog is trotting towards the camera. She is an older, red retriever type with a face white with age and beaming with a brilliant, wide grin.
