Anyone else find it deeply ironic that MAGAts are about to essentially be responsible for the biggest shift to sustainable and renewable energy in history? Of course, they kicked it off accidentally and traumatically, but still.

I really liked this tree at #Hobbiton, particularly the way the branch came down like an elephant's tusk to seemingly cradle and display a small bower of snowdrops.

The laundry hamper at my friend's place judged me for dropping trou. 😂 #pareidolia #anthropomorphism
Tall, dark, woven rectangular laundry hamper with lid and rectangular hole/handle on the side facing the camera. Two rolls of toilet paper sit on top, the one of the left is new and full, the one on the right is half used with a little piece hanging off the right edge looking sort of like a cartoon eyelid, giving it a bit of a "wtf, mate/you are doing me a confuse" expression

Went to the National Aquarium in #Napier to feed #kororā for my birthday. This is Captain (the '20 Penguin of the Year), wondering why I'm not making with the fish already. He ended up getting 5 sprat during this one of his three daily feelings. #NewZealand #photography🪶
Photo looking down from a seated position, the view being down the side of the right leg towards sand. You see jeans and an impatient little blue penguin standing about 25cm/12" tall just centimeters from the sneaker, looking up the leg with his good eye (he lost the other in a fight with a sea bird, which is why he lives in the Aquarium now)

Went out on a Black Cat cruise from #Akaroa again, and watched this one Hectors #dolphin jump into and and bounce off of the other 🤣 #photography #NewZealand #Aotearoa

This species has a dorsal fin that is rounded and looks like a Mickey Mouse ear rather than the classic fin shape of other dolphins. Photo 2 of 2 taken half a second apart.

I just liked the colors and the clarity of their reflections even if it wasn't the exact angle I wanted. These pigeons were hanging out on a pylon at the #Picton Ferry Terminal. #NewZealand #roadtrip #photography 🪶
Photo of teal water in the background with ripples from the wind. An orange rusted pylon is in the middle of the photo, with tall rim around a hollow section at the top. 10 pigeons stand around the narrow lip, each within a few inches of each other. There is water in the hollow, and you can see clearly the reflection of several bird butts.

The orange really stands out against the teal, and the several of the birds stand out especially well at the top of the circular rim because their upper halves are shown against the intense blue.

Red-beaked and black-backed #gulls going after offal and trim tossed overboard by fishermen in #Akaroa at the end of their day. I think I'll always be able to hear these photos. 🤣 #photography #NewZealajd 🪶
Juvenile and adult black-backed gulls having a disagreement over who's snack it is. Red-branded guild. 2 sure on the water looking calm, one sits if the water with wings back mod-flap, and the first gull is in the process of trying to drag a big chunk of guts and skin out of the water. Their wings are curved around them and over their head as they backwing hard to try to take off with their prize. 4 seagulls sit calmly on the dark water as a fifth tries hard to take off with a huge snackTwo gulls go after a piece of fish guts and skin, one tugging with a bite in it's break trying to backwing away, and the other in the process of landing just behind the first. The water is deep, dark blue, with red reflecting off the fishing vessel from which their snack came.

Here are some dusky #dolphins playing in #Kaikoura 's South Bay. Couldn't pick one photo for today, so you get 4. #photography #wildlife #marinemammal #NewZealand #conservation 🐙

Only the dorsal fins of the two in the front can be seen as they swim towards the left side of the image, and between them and the beach on the left side of the image is a dolphin mid-leap, caught in a nose-down position as water streams off its hack half.Close photo of two dusky dolphins in green water, splashing back in as their backs are exposed for a breath while they swim fast next to the boatDolphin flipping through the air in front of a brown beach backed by trees and green hills. I got to briefly meet Arwen and Aragorn, a pair of Little White Flippered #Penguins at the #Pohatu Conservation Trust in Flea Bay a couple days ago. 😍 Support important efforts (conservation, rehabilitation, reforestation, predator control, education, etc) at www.pohatu.co.nz/Trust/adopt-...
Guide largely off camera crouching behind a wooden penguin box marked with a plastic tag that says, "B38." The simple box is on on dry dirt and pine needles, lifting the lid to check in on the mated pair of Little White-Flippered Penguins inside. Tourists get a brief, special glimpse of these shy creatures as their guide (Ben, in this case) checks the birds and notes the time, date, number of penguins there, and their condition in their special app. The encounter is brief, and cut extra-short if the penguins make any sign if distress or unhappiness.

This feathered couples' names are Arwen and Aragorn, named by the person who sponsored the box.

Throw-Back Thursday to a trip of a lifetime with #Lindblad / #NatGeo to the #Galapagos. This SUPER curious juvenile blue-footed booby didn't see me as any threat; walked right up while I crouched to take pics of other birds, and I had to move when it tried to get into my lap! #conservation 🪶
Photographer crouched holding a camera to their chest on a sandy patch with low grass and shrubs behind them, sliver of deep-blue ocean in the distance under a light blue sky. Their face is obscured but a tan hat that blends in with the same. Directly in front of the person is a juvenile blue-footed booby, neck stretched out, its break maybe 10cm from the person's knee.

It is illegal to get this close to the birds in the Galapagos, but this one walked up to the person while they were focused on other birds on a nest in the distance.

From today, here's a silver eye/wax eye, or tauhou in Maori. Native, but not endemic. These little ones can often be found in small flocks as I saw on Rakiura and in Curio Bay, and this one was kind enough to hold still long enough for me to get a shot. #Aoraki #MtCook #NewZealand #Photography 🪶

Three Hector's Dolphins (the only cetacean endemic to #NewZealand, and the smallest dolphin species in the world) play near a lucky surfer in Curio Bay. The Māori have several names for this marine mammal, mostly calling it tutumairekurai, meaning "ocean dweller." 🐬 #photography #wildlife #dolphin

Here's a juvenile South Island Saddleback (tīeke in Maori) snacking on Ulva Island a couple weeks ago. This bird nearly went extinct, (no) thanks to humans introducing rats to this paradise, and their recovery is a great success of conservation efforts. #Ulva #Rakiura #NewZealand #conservation 🪶
Black, 8" or so long bird with a beak a little longer than its head. It sits partially obscured on a branch facing the camera, with its head turned in profile to the right side of the image, its beak partially open as it grasps a seed from a pod with three lobes. It has black eyes, a black beak, black skin on its legs, and black feathers; the only color comes from the immature, peach-coloured wattle at the corner of its mouth, which will turn red as it matures.

Waterfalls, Cathedral Caves, and a tasty burger at Peake's Kitchen in Papatowai today.

The sand floor is wet and reflecting the grey, clouded (yet still bright) sky, water from a wave is starting to gently flow in from the extremely shallow beach. View looking off a deck over a small bit of talk grass and over dark subtropical greener, or over Lee Bay and the Foveaux Strait north towards New Zealand's south island. It is nearing dusk, and the sky is muted blues and pinks, with light grey clouds dominating the pastel blue sky. The sounds are wind in the leaves and the constant roar of surf on the coast below.
