STAR-SPANGLED SILHOUETTE: Post-Dallas, the 1965 Perennial Woman calendar bypassed grief for style. Lifted from a wire photo, Betty Brader’s lithograph placed Jackie against a crisp grid of the stars and stripes—a stylised, eternal icon of Americana. #60s #60sstyle #america #starsandstripes #style

A mid-century Pop Art lithograph of Jacqueline Kennedy from the 1965 Perennial Woman calendar by Betty Brader. The artwork displays a full-length, stylised fashion illustration of Jackie standing elegantly in a long, chic white gown. Her statuesque posture and signature bouffant hairstyle are rendered in clean, minimalist lines. Her full-body figure is superimposed over a bold, graphic backdrop of the American flag, with large red and white horizontal stripes and a blue field of white stars framing her form in pure 1960s Pop Americana style.

I don't think I would even remember what to do. But..since you're already burning stuff..can you you please burn me copy of Phoenix? I used to love that game! #1980s #phoenix

Phoenix is a fixed shooter video game developed for arcades in Japan and released in 1980 by Taito. The player controls a space ship shooting at incoming enemies that fly from the top of the screen down towards the player's ship.

An Italian arcade cabinet of Phoenix. The game was distributed in Japan and Europe before its release to American arcades.

Prob more in your Mum's era (The Smiths) but they meant the world to me when I (probably) your age. The guitar playing...is exquisite.

No one has said 'Stand by Me'? It's brilliant! It appeals to all ages and your folks might appreciate or at least relate to the time it is set. An evergreen existential film that burns into your heart and soul. Remember also..director Rob Reiner did the Princess Bride..and Spinal Tap.

Michael Leunig's cartoon The Garden Gate was first published in 1989. It is one of his well-known works, reflecting his signature whimsical style and philosophical musings. A simple gate stands ajar, opening to a lush, inviting garden—a symbol of peace, freedom, and hope. Above, the night sky reveals infinite possibilities.

Interesting that she is digging in with this concept of hers. An excellent way to alienate a significant proportion of her readership...and for what gain? Just remember though, she lives in a world of fantasy that she created - or that she appropriated from the greats. #backoffalready #read

Charles Blackman 1928 - 2018. 'The Silence' 1959 Medium oil on board. Dimensions 121 x 91cm. Charles Blackman’s The Silence conveys a dreamlike tension between isolation and intimacy, often interpreted as reflecting themes of vulnerability and the fragility of human connection. #charlesblackman

In 'The Silence' by Charles Blackman, the central figure is a woman with her head lowered and eyes closed, as if deep in thought or contemplation. Her face is pale, with subtle shading that suggests a quiet, introspective mood. The background is dark, almost indistinct, focusing attention on the figure, which is the focal point of the painting. The use of muted colors, primarily shades of brown, black, and gray, creates a somber, tranquil atmosphere. The figure's posture conveys a sense of stillness, with her arms loosely at her sides, adding to the overall feeling of silence and solitude. Signed '59' in the top left corner.

I couldn’t agree more, Dr. Andrea. The trouble is, it was done so effectively and emotively in the first John Wick, which spawned (as of now) five sequels about a formerly retired hitman whose puppy’s death springs him back into action. Now, everyone is hopping on that bandwagon.
