10P/Tempel a month ago, at magnitude 8. The coma shows a fan-shaped gradient 🪭, with an extremely faint dust trail extending almost horizontally hard to see. Poor transparency made the trail difficult to detect. #astronomy #comet ℹ️ cometografia.es/10p-tempel-2...

Everything comes around. Today is the big day marked on the calendar so many years ago… Take your photos, but above all, put the devices aside for a moment and enjoy the spectacle in good company. Good luck to everyone! Photo: Partial solar eclipse, 2011 Jan 4, Cullera, Valencia, Spain. #Eclipse

☄️ Comet 220P/McNaught has experienced two spectacular outbursts in 2026. The first peaked at around magnitude 8 in June, while a second outburst in early August has brought the comet to between magnitude 7 and 6.5, within binocular range. The show continues! 🔭 #comet #astronomy

🗒️ 220P/McNaught — 8 Aug 2026 I followed it from the observatory the next evening. The sky, with cirrus and a waning Moon 🌙, eventually cleared. The coma still shows structural detail, but the ion tail ☄️ is barely visible after stacking. Is it fading, or are conditions just not favourable?

☄️ 220P/McNaught is in outburst again! On my second attempt, I managed to salvage 15×30s exposures from 102 frames despite the clouds. The comet is incredibly bright, with an ion tail extending ~0.5°. About 600× brighter in just a few hours! Image data & measurements are shown in the image.

Comet C/2026 C1 (Tsuchinshan) remained near mag. 18 before disappearing into solar conjunction. It was still essentially stellar, with its tiny coma below my system's resolution. My last image until November, when it should be slightly brighter. #astronomy #comet ℹ️ cometografia.es/2026c1-tsuch...

Comet 220P/McNaught faded to about mag. 12 just three weeks after its remarkable outburst. Comet 10P/Tempel days ago, brightened to mag. 10, with its green fan-shaped coma continuing to expand as activity increased. A faint dust tail extends from the coma, while the distant galaxy pair IC 1331 and PGC 65391 adds an unexpected backdrop. #astronomy #comet ℹ️ cometografia.es/10p-tempel-2...

Periodic Comet 10P/Tempel as imaged on June 14. It had brightened to about mag. 11 while retaining a diffuse green fan-shaped coma around a well-defined false nucleus. IC 1324 and the edge-on galaxy PGC 65019 shared the rich background field. #astronomy #comet ℹ️ cometografia.es/10p-tempel-2...

C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) on May 19. This wider-field image revealed far more of the comet than my close-up view: a vivid bluish-green coma, a short dust tail, and a remarkably sinuous ion tail stretching about 6.5° through rich galactic nebulosity. #astronomy #comet ℹ️ cometografia.es/2025r3-panst...

The orbit made a turn of nearly 180 degrees around the Sun, but the nucleus disintegrated before perihelion. The dust grains continued along the original direction, simply pushed by solar radiation. The resulting cloud will dissipate within a few hours.

It may currently be around magnitude −2, but this is uncertain. What really matters is how it behaves this afternoon and tomorrow, after its sharp turn around the Sun. That will determine what we may be able to observe from Earth in the coming days (Animation: C/2024 G3 ATLAS, January 2025).
031
Pepe Chambó @pepechambo.cometografia.es · 04/04/2026
Estimating its brightness is very difficult at the moment, as its approach angle coincides with the support structure of the coronagraph’s occulting disk, making it appear dimmer (Images: SOHO spacecraft and LASCO coronagraphs, ESA, NASA). 🧵

Pepe Chambó @pepechambo.cometografia.es · 04/04/2026
It is now so close to the Sun that it can also be seen in another coronagraph aboard the SOHO spacecraft: the LASCO C2 coronagraph, which has a much narrower field of view. The comet still appears very compact — a good sign — in the red-toned (false color) image. 🧵

Just 4 hours remain until perihelion for comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS). In the LASCO C3 coronagraph, with its wider field of view, the head is already hidden, but its tail can still be seen extending up to ~4° in the blue-toned (false color) image. 🧵 ℹ️ cometografia.es/cometas-visi... #astronomy #comets

From Southern Hemisphere, it may still be visible with binoculars over the one or two days (up to ~mag 7), before becoming unobservable near perihelion. Post-perihelion: reappearing ~Apr 7, very low in nautical twilight, with small binos (mag near 6). ll of this, assuming it survives perihelion.
