Discs I picked up at Recycled Books in Denton this past weekend. An eclectic selection if i may say so

clockwise: 4K Blu-ray of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"; Blu-ray of "Rear Window"; DVD of "Stargate SG-1: The Ark of Truth"; Blu-ray of "Uncle Buck"; Blu-ray of "Doctor Butcher, M.D."

finally watched this on the 4K. Totally worth the hype. Not the scariest nor even really best of the year, but 2026 has been a shockingly great year for movies so that's not a big diss. Builds a really effective atmosphere and Inde Navarette's performance is iconic and unsettling as fuck. Solid 9/10

And he's objectively correct by any possible measure. every time someone tries to make Hasan bad by citing things he's said it's always just this

Sure I already owned it on CD but it seems like quintessential Gen X Dad Rock that ought to be owned on polyvinyl chloride, formaldehyde off-gassing be damned. I also got anoother record by some hippies I don't think anyone's heard of

holding two vinyl records like playing cards, in front is Breakfast In America by Supertramp, behind it is Abbey Road by The Beatles (both are new modern pressings, nothing to write home about)

110

Pendell @pendell.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

I don't usually buy records, much more of a CD nerd, but I don't regret picking up Breakfast In America to support my friends' new coffee and record shop in Waxahachie (visit Rhythm & Brew on College St if you're ever around the area!)

I love the long-running British tradition of making children's media creepy as fuck.

010

Pendell @pendell.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

was very surprised to see a copy of this pop up at the bookstore, how could I say no? "She wants to be flowers, but you make her owls."

The Owl Service by Alan Garner.

"You must not complain, then, if she goes hunting."

I will say my B&N Premium membership pays for itself easily every year, even after they raised it to $40/yr. 10% off basically everything (which STACKS with most other discounts and sales), rewards points, and free shipping online. Nabbed some Weird Horror classics in anticipation of spooky season.

- The House on the Borderland (Heathen Edition) by William Hope Hodgson
- The King in Yellow (Heathen Edition) by Robert W Chambers
- The Great God Pan and Other Horror Stories (Oxford World Classics) by Arthur Machen
- The Wendigo and Other Stories (Oxford World Classics) by Algernon Blackwood.

After 2 seasons of Toph's metalbending mostly being used to get through walls and doors she casually whips this shit out in the finale.

Don't get me started on the bizarre screw collars that match the conduit from the wall with the fixture. I finally found a wrench big enough to fit around them and it seems to be from about the 1940s judging by the patina

Some of these transformers literally look like they exploded in a ball of fire and were then submerged in saltwater for the better part of a decade. And then caught on fire again.

Second day in a row I have spent outside in the 105° Texas sun, up on a ladder fucking with 20-year-old 250w metal halide light ballasts full of dead bugs. Send help.

One of the fixtures, front panel open to show a bulb glowing a dim faint green

One of the massive 250w bulbs in question

The horrifying insides of one of these ancient fixtures, dead insects, a massive old capacitor, and a burned out transformer that looks like it's been both on fire and submerged in saltwater for about a decade

okay i expected the Inland Empire remaster that used Topaz AI to be bad but I didn't expect it to be this immediately, arrestingly visually repulsive holy shit

I finally found my blu-ray of House (1977) and watched it again. It's just as amazing as I remember. There is no other movie even remotely like this.

2 gems in the reviews for a silicone 18650 case "I farted me I bought him again because I liked him the first time" "it is not weather tight if moister get in it may cause a short cricket."

the canvassers won't leave me alone!

Text from a random number reading "Hi, it's Jennifer, a supporter of Ken Paxton. The stakes are high, and James Talarico is the wrong choice for Texas. Got a sec? Stop2End"

To which I replied: "Sorry, I'm not a Republican so I don't vote for child rapists"

AND the shipment I actually received is another product of theirs that is genuinely really amazing for teachers and students on a budget, they sell their factory seconds and leftovers in boxes of 144 for $5. Five dollars. I was already thinking of buying some to donate to the school.

Couldn't resist the allure of the tiny stationery section at Lowe's. 1.3mm gotta be the thickest mechanical pencil I've used that's not just a straight up artist's lead holder.

after finishing the Yamato remake I figured I'd watch the /original/ second season from the late 70s before delving into the new second season, and MAN. There's just no topping the class of 70s anime music this easily clears any of the ED songs in 2199

000

Pendell @pendell.bsky.social · 21/07/2026

watching yamato and they're currently experiencing genuine cosmic horrors beyond comprehension and it keeps cutting back to Kodai deadass 😐 about it

Yamato 2199 is a good remake because it understands it's really about how badass plot armor can be. Over 10,000 ships in the way? "We'll have to ram through them." And you think No They Can't Just Do That but bc their timing aligned with a bad coupe attempt they are in fact able to Just Do That
