iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Today's reading. I figured it was time to get around to this issue seeing as it's now October and I got this back in June. It also feels appropriate after that Portfolio I received this afternoon.

He also included this sticker from GLORP, the gum company that also gives you a t-shirt when you order because it was Halloween related.

Late arriving birthday gift from a friend who really knows what I like. Howard Chaykin doing Sherlock Holmes from 1976/1977. Pretty great stuff.

This is absolutely one of the best days Daikaiju TV runs every October. The Yokai Monster and Mr. Vampire films are absolutely worth your time and attention. Cannot hype this enough. Do yourself a favor and tune in. It's FREE after all.

I did a thing. If you're a fan of Mork Borg and ever wished there was a cool and successful Japanese version that would later be translated to English than you should also check this project out. Five days remain for you to back. #MorkBorg #NobunagasBlackCastle #Kickstarter #GreenRonin #RPG #TTRPG

I just want to call attention again to the poster for Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling's upcoming Wrestle Princess VII (Midnight U.S. Central) which was designed and illustrated by Go Nagai, creator of MAZINGER Z, DEVILMAN and, most importantly, CUTIE HONEY! #tjpw #tjpwWP7 #GoNagai #HoneyFlash #CuiteHoney

The Bloodthirsty Trilogy is some of the best work to come out of Toho Studios. It's their attempt to do Western style vampires and all three films are hugely entertaining. If you don't have the excellent Arrow Video box set I encourage you to tune in tonight for some spooky thrills from Japan.

Seconded. You would really shine on a Lois Lane book. That's probably an unfair statement as I believe you would shine on literally any book. Keep up the stellar work.

I mean, c'mon, there's a Greatheart Silver story and anything Ron Goulart writes is worth a read. An Archie Goodwin prose story is also fairly rare. The art speaks for itself due to the incredible line-up of illustrators. Not Mint but well worth the price just to own one. I can always upgrade it.

000

The highlight was definitely the Weird Heroes anthology by Byron Preiss. Ron Goulart, Philip Jose Farmer, Archie Goodwin, Mr. Preiss and Joann Kobin present tales illustrated by Jim Steranko, Alex Nino, Dave Sheridan, Tom Sutton and Jeff Jones! Plus a conversation with the great Fritz Leiber!

I then spied the Skelos issue which is a collection of poetry, short stories and essays on Weird and Fantastic Fiction. Comics luminary Mark Schultz does a piece as well as a cover and two spot illustrations by Gustav Dore and other interior work by Margaret Brundage and Arthur Rackham among others.

000

Tim Power's The Drawing of the Dark started the ball rolling as I couldn't pass it up for $1.99 despite the very likely chance it's residing in the archives already. Why take the chance? This should also be seen as a recommendation because it's a solid read if you like Arthurian stories and beer.

You put me in a Half Price Books with a little bit of money and time to look around and I promise you I will find some great stuff without breaking the bank too much. Tonight's haul consists of an Arthurian tale about beer, American Pulp Heroes and Weird Fiction! #HalfPriceBooks

A late arriving birthday gift from a certain San Diego buddy who certainly knows what I like. This October is certainly going to begin with a bang... and some Dario Argento.

Dragon #158 is an Anniversary issue and they're almost always about dragons with this issue being no exception. A lot of stuff on the increasing role of computers as well as a look at the new Call of Cthulhu revision. No Snarfquest or Wormy, unfortunately.

000

Dragon #113 is all about the cardboard dragon but also features articles on new battle rules for the Conan game, jets in Top Secret, robots in Gamma World, joining the interstellar police in Traveller and both Wormy and Snarfquest!

020

Issue 86 contains a cardboard castle; an article on familiars; some new enchanted items; the ARES section with stuff for Traveller, Star Frontiers and Gamma World as well as a Wormy episode!

Issue 74's big gimmick is the combat computer but there is also a look at The Man From UNCLE, some new swords, the role of computers in character creation and Wormy!

One of my pals dropped me off some Dragon Magazines he had doubles of from our recent Labor Day spree for my birthday and I'm never against FREE reading, especially since they plug a few holes in my own run. Thanks, @rawn1nlamb.bsky.social! #TSR #DungeonsandDragons #DragonMagazine #GaryGygax

I actually thought I had both Matt Helm books. I hate re-buying stuff but the condition was excellent and the prices hard to beat ($2/$3/$2 and I had a 20% off coupon). Everything was less than $5 except the Rincewind at $12 but Sci Fi Book Club stuff is getting harder to find, especially cheap.

Pencil Army @pencilarmy.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

A short Birthday trip to Half Price Books netted me two Matt Helm novels, one I have and one I didn't; an Ellery Queen I already have; a pair of Holmes by Michael Hardwick and John Dickson Carr; some Sci-Fi criticism and the first four Rincewind books in one handy volume!

FUN FACT 2: The Arisu Endo card (top row 5 in) is an Uncorrected Error Card (UER). She is listed as #18 but she's supposed to be #24. Kyoko Inoue (top row 4 in) is the real #18. There is no #24 in the set.

Sorry for the glare on Miyako Matsumoto. She deserves better.
