Google wants people to trust their AI summaries, but the information can be so very wrong. A worrisome thing is that often the correct information isn't next to the summary, so you might not immediately realize the inaccuracies. (See the Alt text if you are having trouble spotting it.)

"Export Summary" for a Google Takeout archive. The archive size is 234.6 MB. The "Export summary", with an AI sparkle icon, says the export is 234.58 GB. That's 1,000x off.

I just read through it and from what I could gather, they actually taken in some feedback. For the most part, they're going to implement it to where it doesn't require selfies or ID cards. This isn't something to cause any of y'all to nuke your Discord accounts or go into mass hysteria.

Cloudflare has a new "Disallow AI Training" setting that allows "accountable" mixed-use crawlers from Google, Apple and Microsoft index your site for search, but blocks AI training. Previously you could only block or not block both indexing and AI training from those bots.

I do wonder how creators who use multiple platforms are supposed to manage. Do you have multiple communities on Discord, Patreon, YouTube, beehiiv, Substack? Or do you pick one place and how people who are newsletter readers (for example) are willing to join your community on a different platform?

Google is testing paying publishers for content that appears in AI Overview, AI Mode and Gemini. I'm not sure this compensates for the death of traffic from search. It will be interesting to hear how this works (if any of the participants share).

AI "coaches" in your account are the latest trend. Personalized chatbots are at least theoretically more useful than trying to ask ChatGPT or Gemini to analyze your content. YouTube has Ask Studio and the new Shorts feedback tool. Facebook Creator Studio also gives personalized tips.
