Trophy #6 with Orzhov Lifegain, with Confidant. I like this version more than Abzan. The guide updated should be out tomorrow, wanted to get more reps in with Confidant. metafy.gg/guides/view/...

Another trophy with Abzan Lifegain Beat the mirror, boros dragons, boros tokens, 4c control and uw control. Still need to figure out if Abzan or Orzhov are the way to go, but the archetype in general feels pretty busted.

First league with Reality Fracture and the first trophy, with a build of Abzan Lifegain focused on Planeswalkers. Ajani was extremely good, the Ways were solid, but I am not sure if green will be worth it in the long run. Beat Spellementals, Jund Sacrifice, Delirium, Doomsday and UG Landfall

5-0 on the first try with Orzhov Lifegain splashing for Dellian Fell. Wanted more shocklands anyway, and the card is both individually powerful, and has synergy with the rest of the deck. Beat Boros Dwarves, G Landfall x2, Spellementals and 4c Control Excited for the tools Reality Fracture brings

Trophy with the Lifegain list from the guide I wrote. Beat Jeskai Lessons, Dimir Midrange, Mono R Aggro, Mono G Landfall and Boros Dwarves All the cards feel solid, and the deck feels good playing into the big meta decks (Landfall, 4c Control, Spellementals, Dimir Midrange)

Trophy with Orzhov Lifegain. Beat Mono G Landfall twice, Spellementals, Boros Tokens and Boros Dwarves Deck feels well positioned, with a good matchup into the 2 most popular decks (Spellementals and Monk G Landfall) Working on a guide for the deck, hoping to get it out next week.

People like Timothy Zahn and David Weber are still cranking out that kind of stuff but they are a dying breed
000
pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
Which is a shame, because it's looking like David still has the juice. He never lost his mojo when it came to battles and believable characters, but the scale got too big, and so did the books. His short story in the latest anthology is genuinely beautiful

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
I do think the status quo at the end of To End in Fire has potential for smaller scale stories, either out in the Verge, or with newly created polities like the Renaissance Factor/other Solarian breakaway states, but I am not sure Weber is interested in writing them.

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
I think that part works well enough, the RMN is presented as a high paying job that teaches skills which are transferable and guarantee instant employment in the infinitely expanding merchant marine ( the non commissioned ranks are never portrayed as anything other than fully meritocratic either)

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
After listening to some of his recent interviews, I get the feeling Weber himself regrets cutting the time skip immensely (he is very happy about not killing Honor though).

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
The later stuff is not for everyone, although there are bright spots. I do recommend Shadow of Saganami to people, as imo it is one of the best books in the whole series. The newest book, Toll of Honor, which fills in gaps between Field of Dishonor and Flag in Exile is a return to form of sorts

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
But it does seem like the Liberals, at least, care about public opinion, and how it will affect their fortunes in the Commons. They elect Montaigne as party leader after the fall of High Ridge, so internal politics exist, although it leads to a split of the party in the Lords.
010
pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
One thing I don't think we ever get a good sense of is the internal working of the parties which are present in both houses of Parliament: how much influence do the Common members have on the party policy? In theory, the Lords don't even need them (Conservatives function just fine without)

Red Leyline and the Green Landfall deck have so far been the most uncomfortable matchups I faced, racing them is hard and having large blockers is not very useful. Bat should help there too, though

Split the finals of the Standard Challenge with Orzhov Lifegain, slotting in the Bats to the SB for the combo matchups. Paid off in the top 8, where I beat GB Earthbend Combo and Airbend Combo with their help If Bant becomes very popular, could be maindeck, they are on plan @fireshoes.bsky.social

A nice 7-2 result in today's Standard Showcase Challenge with Orzhov Lifegain. Tuned the list this the past week, and turns out 2 mana Wedding Announcement with upside is good if you can enable it. If you want a deck that beats Dimir and Jeskai consistently, and does well vs Simic, look mo further.

Got top 4 and my first ever RC invite in the Vintage Qualifier with Mono White Initiative!!! I don't play the format at all, and picked Initiative cause it seemed to have a straightworward game plan. Don't think I played super well, but it was good enough.

Don't think you can do any better vs Izzet than this, and the Dimir match has felt pretty decent since I switched to Tomes. Could sideboard more cards for it, if it's a 2 deck format I like the matchup vs stock UW lists, hard for them to keep up in card advantage, and SB Beatdown plan not impressive

Couldn't do better than 6-3 in the Standard Showcase. Made a few changes, adding the extra Bezas to the SB, and they paid off vs UW Control and Mono R Dragons. 2-1 (5-2 in games) vs the Boogeyman Cauldron, the matchup continues to be good and the main reason to play the deck

Cards line up really well vs Izzet, and Ketramose both gets online quickly and is hard to deal with I didn't have Annex Soulstone in my original build, but the mana works well enough for it and Charm. The SB needs a bit of tuning, felt that there were redundant cards. @fireshoes.bsky.social

Prowess matchup used to be really good, but is a little worse with Cage not hitting Talent, might be time for a few High Noons in SB, to take advantage of it dodging Cage. The Exorcises in the SB were not amazing and can be replaced. @fireshoes.bsky.social

I feel like the logical step in the future for the techbros is selling AI as the ideal autocract. Skynet is gonna take over not because it goes rogue, but because that's what it is designed to do, and a large percentage of the population will cheer it on

000
pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 20/06/2025
He forgets Clausewitz, because you can't look at the decisiveness of battles without relating them to the political objectives of the states. Your example of The Seven Years War is excellent, because Frederick didn't need to have his victories destroy Austria, France or Russia utterly.

pedja13.bsky.social @pedja13.bsky.social · 20/06/2025
Certainly, France was not completely defeated by them, but from a Dutch point of view, they were decisive, because they secured the Barrier Fortresses for the side of the Allies, which was their primary political and military objective. You could hardly have the Treaty of Utrecht without them

I always thought that Nolan advanced his argument too far and without nuance. Take his review of the War of the Spanish Succession for example. He concedes that Blenheim was a decisive battle, which preserved the Coalition by saving Austria, but he dismisses Ramilles and Oudenarde
