Not to get too wonky here, but anyone w Fed acquisition experience should read and roll your eyes at their J&A. -asserting, not demonstrating, lack of other available sources -urgency not a justification under 'only one responsible source' where are the PCOs who take their warrants seriously?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is uniquely qualified to provide these services
to the FBI based upon the following:
UFC has demonstrated an expertise in all of the mixed martial arts skills that are
demonstrated in the PWS. The trainers provided by UFC have the skills necessary to instruct
striking techniques, grappling/takedowns, weapon defense, ground control, as well as
conditioning to the standard that the FBI expects and requires. Though other vendors found
through market research demonstrate some of these skills, none are able to provide a
training that encompasses all of these at the expertise that is required by the PWS.
In addition to this, no other vendor has experience providing this training that is specific to
the FBI. Given the time constraints for this requirement, only UFC has the experience
necessary to provide FBI ready training with the time that is allowed.

Even the physical measures are problematic, bc some places get them, theyre based more on vibes than need, and just moves that traffic to someone else’s street. And whose vibes always win? Rich white people. doubt there’s anywhere else in Cambridge with five one-ways going the same way in a row.

Patty Nolan (the swingiest bike vote on Cambridge City Council) doesn’t support a proposed 5-yr delay on the Huron Ave PBL extension.
Huron Avenue Bike Lanes
A policy order sponsored by Councillors Zusy, Simmons, and Flaherty asks to postpone installation of separated bike lanes on Outer Huron Avenue for 5
years. As I wrote in my last newsletter, while I am sensitive to the concerns of petitioners, I will not support the policy order to delay the Huron Avenue bike lanes for 5 years. The policy order was charter righted last week and we will discuss it again Monday night. I do support doing all we can to mitigate the concerns

“Car owners are the most abused constituency in Cambridge.” Now is certainly a moment in time to label yourself ‘most abused’ because resident parking is going up to $75 per year.
A Nextdoor post from cambridgeport: Car owners are the most abused constituency in Cambridge. Not only has the city removed street lanes, making traffic much worse (Western Ave., et. al.), they have eliminated many parking spaces to allow for bike lanes (see Broadway, et. al.). And in addition to the annual property taxes car owners pay, they now are raising the cost of the parking sticker, and senior citizens, who previously got a break on this fee, are also losing that allowance. Is there an end to the city's gouging of car owners?

Bike Network Vision calls for lanes on Kirkland St east of here, reaching up to Scott/Irving (possible 100% parking loss for VIP residential). But doesn't reach Beacon, where Somerville PBL'd Washington all the way to Union Square. We should figure out an all-ages bikeway for all of Kirkland.

Catfishing in the nextdoor barrel
Nextdoor post from Rosaleen J.
East Somerville

For many years, my calendar was filled with work, responsibilities, and taking care of the people I love. Now, as I get closer to retirement, I'm discovering that life has a funny way of saying, "Congratulations, you finally have time... now what are you going to do with it?"
I'm single, independent, and
grateful for the journey that brought me here.
The lessons, the adventures, the unexpected turns, and even the moments that didn't go according to plan have all shaped who I am today. These days, I enjoy meaningful conversations, exploring new places, discovering great restaurants, staying active, and appreciating the simple joys that make ordinary days feel special. I believe the best connections happen naturally

Having top secret components shipped directly to a hostile nation is obviously keystone-kops shit, but everything in these last four paragraphs seem even more damning to me www.politico.com/news/2026/09...
From Politico: A Government Accountability Office report from 2023 found that more than 1 million F-35 spare parts have gone missing in the past five years. The watchdog agency concluded the department hasn’t been able to review spare part losses worth tens of millions of dollars because Lockheed controls the information.

“The F-35 Joint Program Office does not track or enter these spare parts into an accountable property system of record that would enable it to capture and store real-time changes to property records,” the report said. “The prime contractors maintain this information.”

Spare parts shortages mean the fighter jet is often grounded. While sustainment costs have continued to increase, the F-35 has not met performance goals and performance “has trended down,” according to a GAO report from this year.

The program is on track to be the world’s costliest, and the Pentagon expects to spend almost $2 trillion over the course of its lifespan.

This is basically the sum total of my school choice and public school equity vibes
Two posts by Darren Buck @bikepedantic.bsky.
Neighborhood schools would solve the transpo problems, but the whole choice program was done for equity, and I think that it's worked to at least some degree.
There are really no "good/bad" schools, no neighborhoods where prices spike only because of a school catchment.

I'm out of my depth, but I think the choice system is here to stay, and i'm content to lobby for transpo changes that help make that system work better
