This is a great article. I had the amazing honor and privilege to teach somewhere during my academic career where the way we taught was playful, subversive, and unruly. It's so sad it's gone at the time we really need it.
Ultimately, the structure of higher education itself needs to be interrogated and radically changed. Some proposals that I have defended in my own writing include: ungrading, eliminating predetermined learning objectives, adopting a pedagogy of play inspired by Maria Lugones, banning billionaire donations in academia, decolonizing knowledge, and revising the curriculum to focus on prison abolition and the de-institutionalization movement. While I do not have space to elaborate on these proposals here, they all rest on the idea that education should not be standardized, surveilled, and policed by neoliberal authorities. These techniques make it far too easy to replace learning with AI-generated slop that replicates dominant discourses and reproduces hierarchies of power. Education should not be boring and alienating, as hooks described it. It should be playful, subversive, and unruly. And until it becomes these things, people will turn to AI as a substitute for learning.

I don't think that's right. The study has 25% trans girls, and 75% trans boys. They say 75% of the transgender youth have female gender marker, that should mean that 25% have male gender marker.
Results Among 231 783 youths in the analytical sample, 41 472 youths (17.89%) were transgender (median [IQR] age at baseline, 9.00 [7.00-11.00] years; 31 246 with female gender marker [75.34%]) and 190 311 youths (82.11%) were cisgender (median [IQR] age at baseline, 8.00 [6.00-10.00] years; 128 942 with female gender marker [67.75%]). Being transgender was associated with higher odds of mood disorder diagnosis (aOR, 4.42

I'm glad folks are studying this - more needs to be done. It's important.
A new study by researchers at the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania) introduces the concept of “cognitive surrender,” our tendency to adopt AI outputs with “minimal scrutiny,” overriding “both intuition and deliberation.” I’ve read it, and the findings, although unsurprising, are still quite scary.

This is the age of hubris — a time in which we are going to watch stupid, powerful and rich men fuck up their legacies by finding a technology so vulgar in its costs and mythical outcomes that it drives the avaricious insane and makes fools of them.

This article, which is worth a read, points out something I've been harping on. The problem is, there literally would be no AI if the LLMs didn't "exploit our tendency to attribute humanlike qualities to others" - that is pretty much all they are capable of doing. www.wired.com/story/ai-psy...
Experts agree that delusions among patients are an issue that demands attention. It all comes down to how chatbots communicate. They exploit our tendency to attribute humanlike qualities to others, explains Matthew Nour, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist at the University of Oxford

This is going to be an interesting Pride month. Do LGBTQIA+ orgs pretend it's just another June, or will they use this moment to uplift the most marginalized members of our community? Positive Images, a Sonoma County org, has decided to step out of #SonomaCounty Pride, which is the right thing!
We want to share an important update about Sonoma County Pride 2025. After thoughtful consideration, Positive Images has made the decision not to participate in the Sonoma County Pride parade or festival this year. We know that Pride events hold deep meaning for many in our community, and we want to offer transparency around this decision.

Over the past year, we have been in ongoing conversations with community partners and the Sonoma County Pride Board about concerns related to accessibility, safety, and inclusivity—particularly for our most marginalized community members, including Queer and Trans people of color. These conversations have raised a number of issues, including the prominent platforming of police and law enforcement in the event, a lack of accommodations for undocumented individuals, disabled and neurodivergent community members, young families, and elders, and a continued pattern of sidelining partner organizations like the NAACP, whose voices and leadership deserve greater priority.

Before the 1960s, almost everything about living openly as a lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) person was illegal. The Stonewall Uprising on June 28, 1969 is a milestone in the quest for LGB civil rights and provided momentum for a movement.

From Wikipedia
Encouraged by Kennedy and Johnson, Webb made racial integration a priority for the agency. NASA publicly supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964[20] and initiated a series of innovative programs aimed at increasing black participation [21] including specifically targeting black colleges and schools with recruitment programs.[22] On one occasion Webb and Wernher von Braun famously confronted and lectured segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace on racial integration in front of the press.[22] NASA had the worst black representation of any government agency in 1961, but by the time Webb stepped down, it was the best and considered the model for other government agencies on racial integration.[22][20]

This is a great article. And there is one thing to highlight. I think these investors are kind of stupid. Although I write them in my fiction, I have always been very skeptical of AGI in any reasonable time frame to a capitalist who wants a return on their investment while they are alive.
As I've written before, OpenAI simply burns money, has been allowed to burn money, and up until recently likely would've been allowed to burn even more money, because everybody — all of the American model developers — appeared to agree that the only way to develop Large Language Models was to make the models as big as humanly possible, and work out troublesome stuff like "making them profitable" later, which I presume is when "AGI happens," a thing they are still in the process of defining.
