Thanks! Starting a collection of insults from our English speaking friends across the seas, starting with "tosser" from the UK, and adding "like a mushroom". Just watched a series from New Zealand, and need to re-watch it now for insults. (Although they do seem kind of polite on that score.)

Have a 2017 Civic which still drives like new, and has absolutely no hint of a trace of any major repairs to be needed. With a little over 100k miles on it, there's a good chance we'll be driving it for another five years, but prolly many more. So trivial loan costs, and no effect of depreciation.

Depreciation means nothing if you own the car until it literally croaks (which is us). And quality of life decreases if you're trying to save money on fuel costs (admittedly some have no choice, sadly). Once the car is paid off, the additional cost of a loan continues to decrease over time. We now..

We need at least a decade of reliability and safety data, IMHO. (If their cars are anything like the junk they sell on Amazon, make that several decades).

Rent the car, get back to the rental place (by a certain time), and then get back home. For anyone who regularly goes places that are either too far for a bike ride, or the roads would be extremely unfriendly for a cyclist, with almost daily use of a car, rentals just don't seem very attractive.

Sure, but I think the problem is that by now, our cities and roadway systems have been designed assuming almost universal car ownership, which makes renting cars pretty unattractive for probably most people who now own cars. And don't forget the overhead of having to get to a rental place...

I've seen too many memorials to cyclists who lost a fight with a car or truck -- please be careful!! PS. Can't ride my bike to go skiing. I do admire those who can live in a city using only bike transportation, but I just can't be one of those. Especially after spending 45+ years in a lab.

If you had any sense of objectivity, you'd realize that your views on the values and benefits of college life are far off the grid -- many standard deviations away from the norm. Of course, you're welcome to your own views. If that was your experience in college then I do feel sorry for you.

The idea that all fraternities should be removed from college life due to one incident (and surely more) is way too close the the claims of this regime that focus on one crime by an immigrant to justify the horrific treatment of the rest of the immigrant community. We've had enough of this by now!!

If you had a daughter, I guarantee you wouldn't her seeking social interaction off campus. As much as we see bad behaviour in the news, campus life is generally so much safer than going outside the college community.

Women's wrestling is becoming a much more widely accepted sport. Since the number of women's wrestling teams have expanded so much, then it could be taught in PE, and quite early as well. Alongside other self defense techniques, wrestling provides tremendous opportunities to develop self confidence.

I always enjoy voting in person -- it feels like you're really part of a community that you rarely ever see. (Also I like the bake sales too much...).
