Which is frustrating both (1) entirely for its own sake and (2) because it ignores more interesting questions, like "what's the most embarrassingly small sub-unit of 2026 Africa that could feasibly defeat 1939 Europe," a question that would irritate the bigots way more effectively.

That one's just impressively bonkers. Directives to the dev teams to make sure there's no *human*-produced code or art assets? Like there's only one way that'll turn out.

Assuming that was true, which it isn't, we are all of course willing to trust *Meta's* opinions on appropriate guardrails, right? Thing'll probably reject prompts because the user's request wasn't invasive enough.

Even the network effect reason for sticking around on some of them doesn't work anymore, since sites like FB are so fixated on firehosing their own suggestions that "I'm only there to talk to friends/family" wars with "I can't see their posts through all the Stormfront spinoffs FB promotes."

Surely the deep places of the world, gnawed by nameless things, don't deserve that on top of everything else they have to deal with. I need to start throwing uBlock at some of those; god knows on some sites they're making vintage popups feel unobtrusive.

That's basically it. Canadian conservatives are Republicans in any way that matters; Albertan conservatives are the type of people who still call themselves MAGA at this stage of Trump's decline. (Plus they really, really, *really* hate Canada generally, so they and Trump have that in common too.)

American exceptionalism's a hell of a drug. A lot of people are still deep in denial about what Trump's done to US relations with the rest of the planet. Two years into the Canadian annexation bullshit I still regularly run into people who think it's just a silly meme and we're overreacting.

This might be my favourite "what do we mean when we say race is constructed and malleable" document in #CdnImm history. For not quite two months in 1930, Syrians and Armenians were not "Asiatic" until they were again because reasons. Totally credible & objective categorization here, yep. #racism

Dear Sirs -

Please note that the instructions issued under date of September 3rd, 1930, to the effect that Syrians and Armenians are to be dealt with under the provisions of P.C., 168, as amended, are hereby rescinded and that for the future these aliens will be considered as persons of Asiatic race and are to be dealt with under the provisions of P.C.2115, dated the 16th day of September, 1930.

It's always baffled me how long they got away with things like that. The big chains could not only just ban competition nearby, but they could effectively re-zone property they were selling to permanently prohibit *future owners* of the land from selling groceries. Everything about it is ridiculous.
