Womp womp. Found out today that our NIH grant that had an impact score of 19 won't be funded. Filing this over under 'Not Funded*' *Due to generally terrible world events and horrible time for US federal funding for research

Anytime we bring on new people (students, postdocs, staff, faculty), I always wish we had more spots based on the number of many amazing applicants. I like to follow the careers of the people who we couldn't hire, and I get a big smile when I see their successes. Keep it up!

Camping in Utah is like video games in the late 90s. You hear info about a special spot, find vague directions online from a sketchy website, spend hours following unmarked roads wondering if this is a waste of time, and then get to the destination and it lives up to the hype. #KeepUtahWild

The number of NEW, competing grants issued by the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) in FY25 (FY24 totals for reference): R01s: 2 (20) R21s: 0 (7) F31s: 1 (6) F32s: 1 (3) K01s: 1 (1) 5 new grants almost half-way through = the uncertainty from CRs and administrative changes.

Waiting to see if we get a grant NOA (when there is no set payline and there is a CR) is 1000000% worse that waiting for a score / summary statement. This uncertainty for a very well-scored application is awful and completely changing how we budget time and money for the next year

A while ago, we got interested in why we choose to move the way we do. Pulling from behavioral economics, we started to explore how assessments of risk influence behavior. Here, we experimentally tested whether compensatory changes in balance and gait are aligned with these risk models.
