no more than five proper nouns: main character, friend/love interest, enemy, place, magic/science system. main plot only. no side plots. narrative and emotional arc. character-verb language. nothing fancy. no one-off details unless they're the plot. anything you use has to repeat. good luck <3

i helped a client win best pitch at the atlanta writers conference a few years ago. advice: 1) agents' pitch preferences differ, so ask ahead. 2) be ready with a one-page. 3) genre, age range, word count. 4) as in your query, focus on the character's agency and emotions. good luck <3

totally fine :) i'm a freelance query editor. for fiction, as you know, the bio can be ~2-4 lines. but in nonfiction, the template proposal i use, from jane friedman, is 50 pages and includes ... and i would bet that the people feeding these things into ai don't know the difference.

another option is that it's pulling from nonfiction proposals, which do have two-page-long bios because nonfiction is often sold on the strength of the writer.

#amquerying, there are basically two types of people: 1) those who own their mistakes. 2) those who don't. thanks to @meaganburgad.bsky.social for showing us that when she makes a mistake, she limits dissent, which is a way to avoid owning the mistake.
