This week I watched Kabul (2025). Does anyone know what language "the locals" speak? Is it Pashto? I was surprised when I understood some words. Also, some actors casted come from, say, Lebanon. How easy (or not) it may be for an Arabic speaker to learn Pashto, or Dari, to sound convincingly native?

I´ve seen it repeatedly lately how ppl use Google Scholar metrics for comparing other ppl´s erudition in the public domain. Basically flawed - impact ain´t competence. Also, GS is anything but a reliable source of citations count, at least for the Social Sciences & the Humanities.

I´m happy to share with you that I´ve joined the Institute of Military History @ Swedish Defence University as a postdoctoral researcher. I shall focus on the Neutral Nations Supervisory Committee in Korea & Cold War detente. As a historian, I simply cannot part ways with the issues of war & peace.

This piece didn´t fly at first, back in 2016, as it was considered too Norway-focused. In-between the two submissions, I´ve changed a bit as a historian & new sources have appeared & helped me contextualise 'Minister Ditleff´s Report' much better. I´m happy to see that the article has found readers.

Indigenous ethnic federal subjects as strategic liability? This brings back shadows from the past - fears vs hopes which, imo, did not amount to anything close to a "strategic value". Beijing has little to win by expansion in this direction, although some hawkish utterances transpire occasionally.

The last recorded voyage between Norway and #Greenland occurred in 1410. Some of the last news out of the colonies described a witch burning around 1406 and a wedding in 1408. What these mundane dispatches don’t mention is any kind of world-ending calamity—no plague, no slaughter, no starvation.”

Not only you can´t swipe, you can´t touch it (so a situation like this looks pretty surreal to me). The pic makes me recall how me and my sister, an arts student, used to inspect paintings for paint layers but it´s never crossed our minds to touch anything, not even by accident.

Why is Greenland suddenly at the center of a global power struggle? What motivates Trump's interest? And could this spark a transatlantic showdown? I thoroughly enjoyed being on DW's 'To the Point' to discuss these and other questions with a knowledgeable panel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUL6...

I´m not sure whether Dugin is "the Kremlin´s chief ideologue". But what he refers to here goes beyond post-Soviet nostalgia. To reclaim what one has lost despite one´s holy right to own is a potent, easy-to-internalise collective belief. May he have omitted the #Baltic #NATO countries by accident?

Regarding #Lousiana Gov´s remarks: what arcane histories did they teach there in the ´90s? #USA established their presence on #Greenland by agreement with #Denmark´s (somewhat rogue) minister in Washington during #WW2. #Greenland wasn´t sovereign in ´45, #Denmark couldn´t occupy its own territory.
