My annual summer progress ends today. A very fine August but 暑いですね。。。
Pictures of a man's progress around Japan - trip to Hokkaido to eat melon and marvel at the landscape, NIES field work trip to the Minami alps, Suica's Penguin merch, and various Tokyo spots.

Having a great day at JAMSTEC, visiting the Earth Surface System division. Their lobby has former versions of the Earth Simulator computer (currently at version 4) and, nerd that I am, here is a photo. JAMSTEC also lead work on LLM for climate adaption planning - essopenarchive.org/users/555101...

Alas IWGGMS is over but it’s been a great workshop. Can’t wait for the next trip to Shikoku!
All the fun of the IWGGMS fair. A sunset over the inland sea; hordes of scientists running up stairs for free beers; Takamatsu’s very friendly station which has a smiley face; a look at Thursday’s delicious obento lunch (provided by the workshop!); a photo of the opening session, and a scene from the initiation of an instrument scientist in to the python way of data analysis in Pandas when the spreadsheet is in Unicode 🧐

Ten minutes late arriving at the @ncas-uk.bsky.social meeting on AI/ML and horrified to have missed the first half of @atmbnl.bsky.social’s think piece on future directions. Great day of talks followed.

TIL that the dog in the amazing keshō-mawashi worn by Takanoshō was drawn by the artist as a likeness of the redoubtable wrestler.

After a restful weekend mooching about the front range of the Rockies, another mountain(of tech difficulties) emerged at the start of the #TOAR2 CLA meeting - which we’ve now “summitted”. The very patient James Keeble now presenting on our ROSTEES WG.

Quadrennial Ozone Symposium this week. Today is the tropospheric chemistry session. Many excellent talks: for me the recent work of Amir Souri was a real highlight and I always enjoy a chance to hear Michael Prather and his views on ozone chemistry.
