It’s Debach in Suffolk, I had tried both of your suggestions with no luck, the sheer number of All Saints churches in the UK made this really hard work!

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
It’s interesting, quite a few people commented on the small turnout, it all makes sense once you read about the village and it’s gradual depopulation.

Wow, that’s the first photo I’ve seen with it actually in situ. Definitely made the task more difficult once it had been repositioned. It feels great to have found it and we know the exact date and the identity of the soldier!

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
Yes, thats definitely it! The chap in the photo doing the unveiling is Lord Cranworth. The fact that the memorial was relocated and the church now redundant definitely made this one a challenge!

Unfortunately I cant get one that allows me to enlarge it without losing all the detail, I’ve really tried! My son has a high resolution camera, I’m seeing him tomorrow so will see what we can capture using that. I can clearly see it says all Saints using a magnifying glass but the rest??

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
It’s a bit strange as the entrance is quite modest and lacks a porch. I’d be tempted to say this is a side door if it wasn’t for the notice boards.
110
Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
It could be, I haven’t really scrutinised the fashions which may give a clue. Someone said a woman at the back appears to be looking across maybe towards more attendees behind the camera. The little group highlighted definitely seem to be involved somehow, maybe a brother?

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
It’s certainly a tough one. Suffolk chuch expert Simon Knott didn’t recognise it and he has probably visited more flint churches than anyone in the UK. He suggested it might be on the fringes of London somewhere. I can almost read the sign but despite all efforts the name isn’t legible.

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
How interesting! It’s an ambitious looking project, I had no idea it was so extensive.

Paul Sutton-King @paulsuttonking.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
Excellent! You can see the outline of the memorial under the flag, it appears to be a large white marble cross on a slender column. The location seems strange so it may now be re-sited elsewhere in the church grounds.

@theunhurriedreader.bsky.social If you fancy a proper challenge, how about this one which has so far defeated everyone. A WW1 war memorial unveiling. The sign says All Saints D…… It’s a lovely card and I would really like to locate it.

Pretty sure that’s it. My dad’s friend had one, very comfortable but far to exotic for his tastes. He would only buy a car if he was confident he would be able to execute roadside repairs which seemed to be a regular occurrence in the 1970’s
