A few more bits and bobs. This was my first project at Axis and, because I was coming in midway through development, I focused on the atmosphere and mood with tons of paintovers and notes. Also lots of fun little tasks like FX concepts, damage, several matte paintings etc

Happy Monday, here's some old Destiny 2 work (Curse of Osiris cinematic which I AD'd at Axis after the great Gareth Hector moved to another project) 🤘

Matte extension concept for this shot - I painted a bunch of mattes for this cinematic to fill out blank spaces, add additional atmosphere etc.

Another concept for the general chaos of the shot where everything goes down in slowmo. This started as an awesome concept by Gareth Hector who was previously Art Directing the cinematic (he had to leave halfway through and I took over)

Rome loves a spooky church, and so do I. Experimenting with some low ISO shooting (all at f1.7, 1/500, then cranking the ISO as low as I could to just get a little information).

A very dark black and white photo of a shrine? Alter? I don't know what goes on in churches. There's a glass box with a saint, probably, and candles, you know how this works.

A verrrrry dark photo of a sculpture (frieze? I can't remember my art history) featuring various... People and infants just kinda fannying around. Not quite sure what's going on here, it's more about the flow of shapes really.

I decided to get the Pale Tides playtest printed and bound. Feels like a thing I’ll want to look back on in the future. It’s so surreal to have my game out there in the world, even if it is just an early test version which will undoubtedly change and evolve a lot before release 🤘

THE WORLD
The Isles of Caledon are haunted by ravaged spirits, ancient forest gods, and horrors from the deep.
The White Church, born of the so-called Miracle, spreads across the land like a plague. Its priests hunt down blasphemous beasts and burn anyone suspected of witchcraft. Their zeal has shattered the natural order. Wilde magic bleeds from a thousand charred corpses, warping the land and sending the spirits of the carth into madness.
You play as Hexen: a Coven of witches who refuse to bow to this insidious power. Once known as healers and wise folk, witches are now mistrusted and feared by the people of the land. They know the dark truth of this world: that the Church's Miracle was no act of God. It was an offence against nature itself.
As Hexen, you'll venture from your Coven into cursed villages, haunted forests and crumbling castles.
You'll speak with wary townsfolk and confront Entities twisted by pain, trauma, and rage. In the end, you must decide whether to banish, bind, or bargain with them.
To restore the balance you must build your strength and gain the trust of common people and the beasts of the carth alike. Only then will you be able to fight back against the Church and its crusade.
The White Church
The White Church promises order, protection, and meaning in a broken world. Its acolytes speak of purification, endurance, and the divine grace of suffering. Chapels and cathedrals bloom across the land, filled with the heady musk of candles, glittering with relics, and decorated with painted saints whose starving ecstasy borders on the monstrous.
To the lost, the Church offers certainty.
To the desperate, miracles.
To the powerful, a language with which to rule.
Hiding in Plain Sight
Most folk do not know a witch by sight. They know only the stories told by priests and magistrates: horned women in the wood, child-stealers, tempters of men.

The Pale Tides playtest is almost ready to release to my Kickstarter backers 👀 72 pages of THIS. The rules to my game system. A full scenario to explore. And a lot of spooky shit. It feels surreal (and mildly terrifying) to be on the precipice of unleashing my strange child upon the world.

$A page that reads: Beneath the pale moon’s glow, fractured memories of the earth awaken. They stir in deep forests and black lochs. In ruined forts atop frigid peaks. In labyrinthine cities that hiss and scream in the language of industry. Monsters. Manifestations of Nature. Her glory, and Her wrath. Echoes of a time when the world knew balance. When spirits, beasts, and humankind lived side by side. Not always in peace, but in understanding. Then came that great forgetfulness called Enlightenment. And with it, the unravelling of the Old Ways. The rise of the machine, of fire and steel. And the birth of the White Church. They poisoned minds with fear and the promise of their Miracle. They shattered balance and awoke things that should have been left to dream. And in their hate, and their fear, they burned us. Thus, are we called. We are Hexen. War witches.
