Just received my first review for Bluelife, feels exciting! ...I hope the game can find an audience, even if it's very niche.

I've released a new mobile game, Bluelife! It's a fast-paced diving adventure title that has been 7 years in the making :-) It's made with #Construct3, which got me into game development!

I've written an optimistic-by-default WebSocket-based synchronization library that I'm using for fast game development (OpenGuessr runs on it). Spent the last few days making a page for it, if you're interested: therealpaulplay.github.io/PlaySocketJS/

That‘s tough.. I mean they did kill 30+ thousand protesters, so the war could be seen as a necessity from a humanitarian perspective. But I agree that it‘s mostly unprovoked, and probably a breach of international law. But let‘s not kid ourselves here, Iran‘s regime is awfully brutal

It‘s genuinely nice to work in a code base where you feel that the developers weren’t in a rush and spent a lot of time architecting, refactoring, refining and making things as concise and readable as possible. No leftovers of the exploration process, only a clear final design.

I've written a guide on how you can build your own, privacy-preserving, home security camera! It has a bunch of smart features, like on-device AI-vision, and is easy to set up. rootprivacy.com/blog/buildin...

Digital ID is horrible for online privacy😓 We need transparent & European Social Medias, not an ID system that locks teenagers out of participating in the online world. This is awful!!

Banning algorithms makes no sense, they are fundental to how the internet works, but we need transparency in how they work 💯

I was looking for a good feedback board and the ones I found (Canny, Nolt, Fider, Usersnap..) either had mediocre UX or where super pricy. Then I discovered userjot.com 🤩 Will use it for my next side project – together with bugspot.dev for bug reporting of course. @shayy.org really COOKED!

If it means more expensive games, less online & live service games (that people want more of), then yes, it is the customer‘s problem as well.

Paul @paulplay.bsky.social · 06/07/2025
Companies won‘t start going through all these insane hurdles. That‘s what I‘m saying. Maybe the 'buy' button will say 'license' in the future or something. I think while this whole idea of preserving games sounds decent on paper, it just doesn’t work.
000
Paul @paulplay.bsky.social · 05/07/2025
And there are some games where this is just not going to be possible. How do you distribute it? How do you obfuscate it if it‘s written in an interpreted language? What about IPs and so on. The ideal scenario for this would be that it‘ll become more clearly labelled when you buy or license a game.
100
Paul @paulplay.bsky.social · 05/07/2025
Unmaintained software will become harder and harder to run and you can't 'maintain' binary files. Many servers for games rely on proprietary, oftentimes licensed software – who‘s going to pay for that? And what about patented parts of it? Not to mention, companies would have to provide docs etc.
100
Paul @paulplay.bsky.social · 03/07/2025
Companies that sell limited licenses to their games should not be forced to maintain them or make them work offline. As a consumer, you can buy games that fully work offline and may avoid games that don‘t🤷‍♂️ But, I‘m against passing legislation that limits the ways that studios can create games.

I have been seeing a lot a about this conflict (and of course, Gaza), and it‘s absolutely horrible and inexcusable. With Iran, it‘s important to not only look at what happened in the last week, but the last 40+ years to understand what‘s going on here.

Paul @paulplay.bsky.social · 15/06/2025
Source? Iran literally states that they want to destroy Israel in their constitution. I‘m not a fan of any autocrat – by no means am I defending Netanyahu – but I think it‘s safe to say that Iran is the aggressor here.
