Name another 102-y-o who managed to look impossibly glamorous every time she was on screen in North By Northwest *and* was so good in her movie debut that she both won an Oscar and managed to get herself immortalised in a Lloyd Cole lyric. I'll wait. RIP, Eva Marie Saint.

I knew I had a picture of the place itself somewhere. This isn't mine - it was taken a few years after we'd moved out, and I found it on a Facebook group. Our house was No.78, the one with the floral curtains. Opposite was basically a bombsite with a few prefabs when we lived there. No cars either.

21 years ago today, at around 10pm-ish, I came back into the house following a much-needed half-time ciggy (I was still a smoker then), plonked down on the sofa, turned to my beloved and said; "This is going to be the longest 45 minutes of my life." Suddenly... #LFC

The entire Liverpool FC team - players, substitutes, coach, backroom staff - lines up in front of The Kop for a rendition of the club's anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, late in the evening of May 7th 2019. LFC had just beaten Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield, overturning the three-goal deficit from the away tie at the Camp Nou and securing a place in the Champions League final for the tenth time. They would go on to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 on June 1st, becoming European champions for the sixth time (including the four times we won it back when they only let the league title winners enter).

He was a genuinely great pop songwriter. When he caught his second wind during the 70s, it seemed as if he was never off the radio. Then there's this NME cover from a little over 50 years ago. Here we are, with punk about six months away, and a forthcoming Neil Sedaka tour is still front page news.
Image depicts the front cover of the New Musical Express, dated January 24th, 1976.

The cover image itself is a black & white shot of a man with collar-length dark hair, wearing jeans & a plaid western shirt. His back is to the camera and he looks into a mirror which reflects a much older man with grey hair, wearing the same shirt. Headlines down the left-hand read; "Is your fave rave rock star old enough to be your father?", "Is rock 'n' roll an old man's game?" and "We name the aged men."

In the upper right-hand corner is a banner running diagonally from upper centre down to the right, and in black text on a red background it reads "Box office concert details: Neil Young, Rod, Purple, Sedaka".

54 years ago today.
Along Glenshane and Foreglen
and the cold woods of Hillhead:
A wet wind in the hedges and a dark cloud on the mountain
And flags like black frost
mourning that the thirteen men were dead
The Roe wept at Dungiven and the Foyle cried out to heaven,
Burntollet’s old wound opened and again the Bogside bled;
By Shipquay Gate I shivered and by Lone Moor I enquired
Where I might find the coffins where the thirteen men lay dead.
My heart besieged by anger, my mind a gap of danger.
I walked among their old haunts.
the home ground where they bled;
And in the dirt lay justice like an acorn in the winter
Till its oak would sprout in Derry
where the thirteen men lay dead.

This is a poem on ‘Bloody Sunday’, an incident on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. Twenty-six unarmed civil rights protesters and bystanders are shot by soldiers of the British Army. The incident occurs during a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association march; the soldiers involved are the First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (1 Para).

Thirteen males, seven of whom are teenagers, die immediately or soon after, while the death of another man four and a half months later is attributed to the injuries he received on that day.

“Even in this place one can survive, and therefore one must want to survive, to tell the story, to bear witness; and that to survive we must force ourselves to save at least the skeleton, the scaffolding, the form of civilization. We are slaves, deprived of every right, exposed to every insult, condemned to certain death, but we still possess one power, and we must defend it with all our strength for it is the last — the power to refuse our consent.”

This is at the front entrance of the apartment building in Mpls where my friend lives. Obviously there's the "that sign can't stop me cos I can't read" factor to consider, but I imagine it might cause at least a few of these shitheads to hesitate rather than immediately try to force their way in.
Image shows a sign on the entrance door of a Minneapolis apartment building. Sign is an A4 sheet of paper, the upper half of which is white text on a mid-grey background. It reads, "This is private property". Beneath is black text on a white background, reading "Use by any federal, state or local government entity or personnel is not authorized for staging, processing, operations, or similar uses for civil immigration enforcement". The second part of this sentence is in bold text.
