First Coffee Culture Kings. Then out Oak Creek to Bald Hill path. Back Campus Way to campus path to Washington and town. Then to So Coop to pickup lunch and out River Path to Jerry's bench, Back into town and over the river to checkout the new connector under the bridges. Back to the river front path to eat my lunch. THen  home. Very warm and sunny. Feels more like August than October.

Beautiful fall day. Nice and warm. Lost my phone on the path but recovered it using FindMy on my computer. Very lucky. I'm still riding very easy and taking advantage of the motor rather than exerting myself. Plenty of time for that later on. Right now my legs are still getting used to the trike.

Great turnout. Five trikes by the river. Still shirtsleeve weather.

Just enjoying being out on a sunny day. Ran into Dave Miller and hung out on the riverfront talking about trikes.

After a couple of rainy days today was sunny and dry. John gave me a ride over to look at Jim Jordan's trikes for sale. Unfortunately I'm spoiled by Lloyd's which appears too be top of the line.

First ride of fall. Nice day. Did Campus Way bike path.

I have borrowed Lloyd's e-trike. First ride today. Get's up my hill with little effort. I can now do the Tuesday ride.

Met the Tuesday group. Dave D went for coffee with me.

Watered the garden and met up with the Tuesday riders. Rode out 11th with them but turned around. Third day on the trike and it’s not getting any easier. Plus very hot today. First day over 90. 

Second ride on the trike. It's geared way to hight to get up my hill. Really a struggle. Visibility is poor at intersections. Really have to almost stop to see around the corner. If I decide to ride this much longer I will have to have some work don on it.

First short ride on Bridget’s Cattrike. Quite the adjustment. I don’t really like it. Will try on the Tuesday ride. 

I've been off the bike now for the longest time in over 20 years. I missed 6 weeks when I broke my collar bone in 2023 and a month for Covid in 2020. It has been over 8 weeks since I crashed and hit my head. Head injuries heal slower than broken bones. The biggest problem now is my vision which is also affecting my balance. It is mostly the balance that is keeping me off the bike. That and endurance. Every effort is much harder now. I've been riding the stationary bike and it wears me out even at low effort. I've been walking every other day for about 3 miles, and that has been okay. The return up the hill to my house is an effort but doesn't seem to be a problem. Of course the worst part for me is my attitude. I get discouraged easily. I often feel like old age has caught me and it's all down hill from here. I had been thinking that if my balance does not improve I will get a tadpole trike to keep riding. These are the ones with the two small wheels in the front and one the bigger wheel int the back. Today I saw what I used to think of as an old people's trike, with the two wheels in the back and a more upright position. This one was actually quite nice with a more streamlined position. Then my mind shifts and I think "no, I'm not ready to give in yet. Old age will have to wait". Back and forth like that, not wanting to accept my limitations. I'll probably try riding my regular upright bike in the next few days. My biggest fear is hitting the ground again. I believe I've had disproportionally more crashes than most other cyclists. I've been fortunate so far as none of them has been terribly serious. I've even thought I could give up cycling entirely. Make room for other things. Gardening, music, woodworking, traveling in my RV. Cycling takes up such a huge portion of my life, most other things get neglected. Before cycling took over I was probably more well rounded. I have enjoyed spending more time gardening and working in my yard the past two months. Even if I do get back into regular cycling I'll probably do less of it and spend more time on other things. At least that's what I'm thinking today. 

Got started too late to go to Hiatt so the plan was to ride north and do the gravel loop on De Armond road. Headed out over the hills to Adair where i stopped for coffee at Good Grounds. Just didn't have the inspiration to continue north, partly because I knew I'd be fighting a head wind on the way back, so I wandered out the path to the Adair fishing pond, and then across to Mac Forest. I took the trail back towards Peavy Arboretum and as I went I really started to perk up riding the single tack. So I ended up taking Calloway Creek tail all the way up to Cronemiller Lake and back around, and then the Intensive Management trail back to the Arboretum. I got so inspired riding the single track. All my energy came back and I was strong on the climbs. I did have to walk a bit to let my heart rate settle on the steep part just before the lake. I realized that my low energy has really been lack of inspiration riding the same routes over and over. Getting back into the woods brings me back to why I started riding in the first place. Really looking forward to more now.

Warmed up quicker today. Stopped at the garden to do some weeding, then around town.

Errands. Cool and cloudy to start, then warm and sunny. 

Good turnout for the first Easy Rollers ride of the year. Sunny and warmer with the wind at our backs on the way home. 

Took the gravel route. Met the usual gang at Hiatt. Sunny and warmer but fierce headwinds on the way home. 

Stopped raining but still cool and cloudy. Out to Southtown and then Bark Place to order garden soil. 

Another warm sunny day with very little wind. The pace once again was too fast for me and I fell far behind. I caught the group at Luckiamute landing where I made a quick stop and left before the group, allowing me to get over the hill before the main pack. After the ferry I did okay on in to Jefferson but on the way home I fell farther and farther behind. Definitely in limp mode for the last 10 miles. 

Sunny and warmer and not as windy. Met John on route. Ladies group showed up later. Nice day for a ride. 

Nice day for February, not so much mid April. While the rain held off the wind did not. Quite blustery. But that didn't stop the usual group of 10 or so riders from having a jolly old time.

After a couple of days of rain it was mostly dry today. Actually it was misting a bit but that soon stopped. But it was windy and cool. Still it was good to get out.

First Bodhi Southtown to fuel up. Then out to Shonnards for garden stuff. Light rain at the start which soon stopped. Pretty nice after that. I was over dressed.

17 people showed up to join me for my 78 kilometer birthday ride. Plus it was a sunny day. Couldn’t have been better. Not everyone made the whole ride but there were 9 of us at 4 Spirits for lunch. Very thankful for my friends. 

Peak Sports was having a liquidation sale so I rode in. Sunny and warm.

Not as warm as the last two days. Large groups. We split up with some going to Imagine and some to Timber Town. Nice to be with my friends on my birthday.

Back and forth to the garden and around. Warm and sunny.

A large group of Tenners headed north into a stiff wind. The wind was cold at first but the sun was strong it would warm up to the warmest day of the year so far. I tried to not wear myself out on the way out but it was not to be. After yesterday's ride and the headwind I was beat. I kept up the pace to Independence. Even did some gravel with the Tracys and JP. After a little rest and some food at the Ovenbird I started back out with the group, but soon fell off the pace. Once that happens I have no choice but to slow way down and just enjoy the sunshine and finish the ride at my own pass. It was a glorious day for a ride. Today qualified for my 78 km birthday ride, although I'm planning on doing an official ride on Wednesday and inviting all my friends.

Not as cold as yesterday. Temperature probably the same, but without the strong north wind. Excellent turnout and a jolly time over coffee as usual. Good group continued on down to the river.

Cold and windy. Took the day of yesterday to rest, but it would have been a better day to ride. First stop Bodhi's Southtown. Then I ran into Rick at his cottages. Then out to Shonards to get some lettuce starts. Back to the garden to plant them and then a short loop on the way home.

Into town for the No Kings Rally. Met up with some of the Tuesday group and we did a few laps around from campus to the courthouse. Then parked my bike and marched with the crowd. Rode home with Linda. Another sunny spring day.

In my continued effort to syndicate my blog posts far and wide I have implement Standard Site. This is an AT Protocol Lexicon for long form publishing. A Lexicon is a schema for structured data. Basically fields with strict definitions of what can go in these fields. Bluesky is also based on an AT Protocol Lexicon. The difference is that Bluesky's lexicon limits posts to 300 characters. Standard Site expands that to 3,000 characters allowing for longer essays. The problem with this is that Bluesky cannot display posts published with the Standard Site lexicon. There are however a number on new sites that do: leaflet.pub and pckt.blog among others. Simply publishing my posts with Standard Site lexicon syndicates them to these sites automatically, but if I want them to show up on Bluesky I also have to publish them in their lexicon (which I was already doing). The hope is that Site Standard does indeed become a standard and becomes widely implemented. Time will tell. So now my Blog posts are available over Indieweb, Bluesky, ActivityPub (Mastodon), and now Standard Site. Noticeably absent from this list is Facebook. Facebook as I'm sure you know, is not a team player and is not interested in participating in the Open Web. a.k.a. A walled garden. This is unfortunate, because that's where all my friends are. While I may have followers on these other platforms, very few of them are people I actually know. I hope this changes. Skipped the Tuesday ride due to wind and rain. Just as windy today but mostly dry. I was riding into it on my way to Imagine, then by the time I got out it had switched from mostly south to mostly west, so I was riding into it again. Out Grange Hall to 34, then up on 7th and 9th over the hill to West Hills rd. Another loop through campus and around town and then home.
