Me too. Seeing them fly with those big feet is so funny, and their chicks are so cute and clumsy!;

Wetlands seldom get the appreciation they deserve. So much of Central Otago could has been altered it makes me sad.

This is one of the illustrations that didn't make it into the final poster project. The alternative version where the bird is a marsh crake, which is a far more rarely seen bird in Central Otago. #pukeko #nzbirds #sciart #wetland #birdart #wildlife #Aubirds

This is the second of two posters I made with Taieri Wai, highlighting the biodiversity of the Taiari Catchment. These posters are going out to local farmers, catchment groups, and schools for free so they can learn about local wildlife. #sciart #biodiversity #humansofbluesky #birdart #scicomm

I had Otomi embroidery art on my wall as a kid and I love them. They offer children ample inspiration for daydreaming. I still have mine with dragons and flowers all over it.

Green-cheeked Conure and Pink-necked Green-Pigeon for bookwyrmbran on tumblr! Thank you for your generous #Waymakers donation! 🎨🪶 #SciArt #BirdArt Waymakers benefits @theyoungcenter.bsky.social 's critical work to help unaccompanied immigrant kids in the US. Join us again next September!
Illustration of a cheery little Green-cheeked Conure, a type of small parrot, perched on a branch in warm sunny green forest. The bird has its green cheeks poofed out contentedly as it faces the viewer directly so that we can see its green and red belly and the start of its long tail.A Pink-necked Green-Pigeon swoops into view with wings spread diagonally across the image. It is a chunky bird with a subtle blue-gray crown, pink neck, green back and wings with yellow wingbars, an orange rump and steel blue tail. Its iris is a crazy vivid magenta and neon blue. Cast shadows of leaves from trees above lie across its back.

The black robin, once down to just a single breeding pair, wins NZ bird of the year
Fondly known as the ‘goth’ of New Zealand’s bird world, the black robin now has a population of 350 adults thanks to a pioneering breeding programme The black robin, once the world’s rarest bird before an extraordinary conservation project brought it back from brink of extinction, has been crowned New Zealand’s bird of the year, after record voter turnout. The tiny bird is found only in the Chatham Islands, 800km east of mainland New Zealand. Called kakaruia in Māori and karure in Morirori – the language indigenous to the Chathams – the birds are also fondly known as the “goth” of New Zealand’s bird world, for its striking black plumage, black eyes and a little pointy black beak. For those curious about the painting process, first I use a watercolour marker to sketch the design, and then paint a thin layer to start with. Then build up the colors, shades and finally, the highlights. Here's a waxeye I've been working on. #wip #craft #teacup #birdart #bird #painting

Peripitus, or velvet worms are such ancient worms that they still have legs! You can find these cuties under rotting logs in wet places in the forests. They may be small and squishy, but they are a formidable predator in the invertebrate world. #bugsky #worm #mug #handmade #scart

Coming from the PNW, I love a good slug. These are leaf-veined slugs, which are an ancient species that only has 2 stalks instead of the usual 4. They're great for native plants because they only eat algae that grow on the plants, not the plant itself. #slug #mug #sciart #handmade #bugsky #teacup
