I’ve seen Raos and other good brands at Grocery Outlet. Their items change based on what they can get a good deal on. So Raos is sometimes there for like $6 and sometimes they have other good ones for less. Now I check in at least once a week.

Seriously, it’s ridiculous. I decided to make some myself (I’m retired) like my Dad did. Sundays he’d cook it slow all afternoon. Incredible. We’d freeze some. Ate that stuff twice a week. I tried. Even my first attempt was great. That’s one idea. 1/1

I knew a guy whose family was from El Salvador. As a result he spent time there as a kid and spoke like a local. He once had a job with a coffee buyer. He said that Starbucks was kind of a joke because they bought lower-quality beans and toasted them dark to disguise that. Charbucks.

There were cases where SB opened two places close together to drive a competitor out of business. And an investigation did show that sometimes they would offer serious money for a landlord to not renew a lease at a location SB wanted to move into.

I knew a guy who had a coffee stand in a dying mall. Struggled to keep up for years. The the mall revitalized with more popular stores. The landlord rented out a space to Starbuck’s 30 feet from his stand. He was out of business in two months. All the landlord’s rep would say “It’s just business.”

My argument for years. Over-roasting coffee hides the low quality beans they buy. Plus: they are merciless to small coffee places. They have been known to bribe landlords to cancel leases out from under coffee places.
