Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 16/02/2026Congratulations! I hope you plan to have a nutty day. 020
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2025Interesting. For me (Midwest US), “stroke” was always a “Britishism” (or “Irishism” I suppose). Took me a while to figure out if stroke was intended to be - or /. I probably knew / as “slash” since the 1970s, probably under the influence of my system programmer mother’s terminology. 010
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2025Bingo. It was people vocally pronouncing web addresses like "whatever dot com backslash specialoffer" that moved me to post this. :D Anyone who has had to navigate both DOS and *nix knows the distinction is significant. 000
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 23/11/2025Was this a specific "yikes" or just a general "yikes" into the abyss? 120
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 15/03/2025Also, though this was ripe for some kind of 9-dimensional joke (tying together you remembering, my having forgotten, AB thanking me for remembering, my questionable truthfulness, etc.), I completely failed to recognize the opportunity. Anything 9-dimensional that happens to be there was unintended. 010
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 15/03/2025By Jove, you are correct. I had completely forgotten about that. 110
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 15/03/2025I think I had LRP first, but it didn't really click with me until after Document. And I kind of fade out after Green. Sort of a normal distribution with Document at the peak, for me. Probably well-known trivia: Alton Brown was director of photography on the The One I Love. Inescapable on MTV. 110
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 09/03/2025Fact fairly neutral in its entertainment value: The amp appearing in the lower left corner of that photo is presently sitting around 10m away from me in the corner of a room. Somewhere around 36 years after having been caught on camera here. 110
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 23/02/2025It was Michael Halliday who worked at the Lowell Inn. We didn't interact too much, he worked in the kitchen and I worked in the computer room. He did give me a VHS tape at one point with videos on it. I wonder where that is. I don't really know anything about the making of the LITL video though. 120
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 19/02/2025Fair point. Like how I draw backsixes, backeights, backnines, backsies, backgees, backjays, and backesses. :D 160
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 19/02/2025Linguists describe language and its use, rather than prescribe its use. I understand. Nevertheless, for the love of all that is holy, this thing / is not a "backslash." Come on, people. 5585
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 17/01/2025Yep, that's an Apple II+. With I think the Applesoft manual open on the left, and the groovy Pong paddles. And yes a sweet-ass TV.* *xkcd.com/37/xkcd.comHyphen 110
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 05/01/2025Well, to be fair, for all of us there was a day just prior to the first time we'd ever seen a FireWire 800 port. If I were ever going to recycle one of my Apple ///s, I'd absolutely bring it to the Apple store to do it. 010

Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 01/12/2024:D I initially thought "wow, that seems susprisingly warm" and so didn't really understand your quiet gratitude. But that's what I get for getting used to having my phone readout set to °C. 120

Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 25/11/2024I edited that too enthusiastically. Osman = Richard Osman, book tour for We Solve Murders. Though I know him mostly from Pointless and Richard Osman's House of Games. Haven't really read much of the Thursday Murder Club books yet. 020
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 25/11/2024I've only just discovered Taskmaster. I saw Osman recently on a book tour, and he touted his performance on series 2 task (balls onto a yoga mat) as being perhaps his proudest achievement. Seems like a pretty amusing show, though, I intend to watch more at some point. 340
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2024If you can keep up this resistance, you'll save big money. 010
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2024I've now verified myself in the prescribed way, which has led to me having a handle that ends in .com. I wonder if I should start producing merch. 120
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2024Mail and macOS itself (in Sonoma) can actually come pretty close to Mail Act-On. In System Settings -> Keyboard -> App Shortcuts, you can set up quick commands, and for moving selected message to an arbitrary folder, use "Show Help menu," type part of the folder name, arrow down to move. 000
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2024It's just too big a project for too small a team, when things break after the initial release, I don't see how they'll be able to react in a timely way. So, I've begun migrating away from tags and going back to folders, but it's disappointing. These plugins saved me a lot of time back in the 2010s. 100
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 24/11/2024I've used SmallCubed's MailSuite plugins for Mail for almost 20 years. I feel loyal. But when Sonoma Mail broke compatibility, they chose to write their own mail client (MailMaven). Sonoma came, Sonoma went. And still no news of a release date. By nowI fear I won't trust it even when it's released. 110

Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 23/11/2024It's hard not to feel sad for this box. Cheer up, box. You'll be doing your part for the world that comes after you. 020
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 23/11/2024But it definitely makes you feel quite pleased with yourself for getting what is essentially an inside joke when you see what they were going for! Kind of made my day the first time I saw it. 170
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 03/04/2024I am not planning to cancel my advanced syntax class on eclipse day. But the topic of the day will be ellipsis. 000
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 20/02/2024New location sold in Oct 1989, so that's probably about when they moved. I continued working there beyond high school, in a Northfield outpost and in Stillwater when I was home. Anyway. Probably enough property searches for today. 100
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 20/02/2024I think they were here (building from the movie) when I took the typing test and was hired. maps.app.goo.gl/dkBGhBknwdKJ... — but then moved here maps.app.goo.gl/PuRR4xLByci8... shortly after. 100
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 20/02/2024We're reading the same web pages. :D I am also not finding much. 100
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 12/02/2024My recollection of that particular Physics club was that it was mostly about watching movies on LaserDisc. 020
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 28/11/2023I am occasionally reminded that Bluesky is here. In celebration of this time I was reminded, here is a little device I have. It lets you read Wikipedia (offline, text-only) from a microSD card. On the go, no network needed! From 2010, a year that to me still sounds like it should be in the future. 010
Paul Hagstrom @paulhagstrom.com · 16/09/2023Greetings! Thanks for the invite! I didn't use it! I have another account here and have accumulated a few, but you reminded me that I should check in here again. (My other account is @yesterbits.bsky.social, more focused in retro tech.) My record of checking Bsky activity has so far been very poor. 110
