I also think that there are more effective targets than just the banks for taxes in particular. Oil and gas windfall taxes are more effective because they rake in profits on a whim, more so than banks. Besides, banks require regulation, and taxes themselves do not punish bad behavior.

I get that. I don't think windfall taxes on banks are a bad idea by itself, but I don't get the specificity of having to fund small business from that tax. The rhetoric that small businesses themselves are getting screwed and it only being made right by a specific tax is weird.

Also lowkey it seems like Polanski is mad that banks make profit off interest. Yeah, that's how they pay the people who lend and store their money, including the government. Giving tax credits to the $25 millennial burger joint is not going to fix that.

Moreover, banks and small businesses are kind of the same when it comes to motivation. Both Americans and British people take too much worth in small businesses when the only difference between the two is one makes more money. They're still profit-driven in the same way.

Trying to create a bank-to-company tax pipeline seems too convoluted. Why not just make it easier for small business to take out loans from big banks? Besides, you're a socialist party. Campaign on capping interest or something like that. It'd be just as stupid but a little more simple.

I concede that I'm American and therefore have less space to talk about foreign banks when ours are too common a cause for recession, but it's remarkable that between the two countries, the left in both countries have an obsession with: 1. Calling all profit robbery 2. Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

You could argue that the Democrats benefit from this disambiguation because it allows them to campaign as they see fit, but not being centralized is exactly why Democrats struggle to message effectively in national elections without a star on top (Obama as an example), besides the money thing.

Democrats need to centralize at some point. They can't continue sending star candidates to raise tens of millions of dollars and then expect the DNC to run on hopes and prayers. It'd also help with keeping a tighter Democratic message and maintain some sense of unity.
