I'm just now realizing this latest McConnell photo+statement is an excuse note, like in grade school It's not proof of life for the general public like the last photo. It's his staff making an excuse for his inability to make his first scheduled physical appearance b/c of death or vegetative state

Just like gender, social constructs, were applied to plants by early botanists. Marriage, nuptials, husband, and wife were all applied to plants to convey behavior associated with reproduction (as you noted "mating"). But plants weren't getting married, getting their nails done, lifting weights, etc
