I like the shadows of the hat and the handle in this painting. Done on oil primed fine Belgian linen for a change.

Todays painting is off a peeled orange. I really enjoy painting peeled fruit as it reminds me of the old Flemish masters that I love so much. Oil on panel.

Old cast iron, French, cooking pot (that lives next to my living room stone fireplace - where it would have been originally) and some kind of pumpkin (?). Oil on panel.

First painting of the day. This is a rare one, done on canvas ... usually I prefer the smoother finish of MDF panels that I make myself. Oil on panel.

Going back in time ... Winsor&Newton asked me to do a painting to use on the labels of a range of their canvases. I was so thrilled, I would have done it for free .... luckily I kept my mouth shut 😄 You can see the painting and the labels in the first photo.

Years ago, Winsor&Newton asked me to do a painting to use on the label of one of their canvas series. You can see the painting and the label 🙂

I paint in many layers: one lemon may have 6 layers. I use glazes quite a lot, especially in shadows. I always start with an underpainting. I use daily Winsor&Newton paints, worth the extra cost.

This painting is following up from the double dog portrait I posted a few posts ago. My friend's black Labrador. Unfortunately, I only have this small photo as it was done a few years ago. Oil on panel.

This is a small painting - I have included a close up detail to show that, although, my works are realist there are still painterly elements when you get up close. Oil on panel.

To start todays paintings off ... another trompe l'oeil of a lemon. These 'trompes' are always life size to make the illusion work. So, I measure the size of the actual lemon and make it the same size when I do the drawing. Oil on panel.

This painting is of walnuts from my garden ... if I can get to them before the squirrels 😁 A lot of people have never seen walnuts in their green outer shell. The nutcracker is an antique. Oil on panel.

Thank you Cara. Here is a close up .. much larger than life.

Thank you for commenting. I you see the painting close up, you can see the brush strokes and thicker paint. This is many times life size.

Oil painting for this morning ... another trompe l'oeil of a lemon. Painted on 1cm thick MDF panel (if anyone's interested 😁). Busy teaching at my house this morning: art teacher and barista (got to look after my students ... the chocolate biscuits help too).

Last of my paintings for today. I enjoy doing these trompe l'oeil (fool the eye) where they look 3D and seem to come out of the panel, but they take so long to get right. Oil on panel.

Will do. I don't have many wine paintings, maybe I should do some more. This is an old one.
