If you ever master French and immerse yourself in Québec culture, you’ll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

My neighbour says that she can put her compost in conventional plastic bags because the bags all get opened up and thrown away at the composter anyway. She says she learned this on Semaine Verte. Does anyone know if this is true? #montreal

Liberals get their best popular vote result since 1980, and it’s somehow not enough for a majority.

Carney: Canada must be looking elsewhere to expand our trade, to build our economy, and to protect our sovereignty. Canada is ready to take a leadership role in building a coalition of likeminded countries who share our values… If the US no longer wants to lead, Canada will

Very happy that the city will end car traffic on Camilien-Houde. Sceptical about reducing parking around Beaver Lake. I fear that a lot of families will stop coming if there isn’t adequate parking. @alexnorrismontreal.bsky.social #poltmtl #projetmontreal

What if all federal parties promised that if they win the election, they’ll form a government of national unity, and invite members of the other parties to join their cabinet, with a mandate to set aside partisanry and focus on the trade war? #cdnpoli

In Trois-Rivières’ defence, their current mayor is making a serious densification effort. This infrastructure problem is blocking that effort.

TIL that #Montreal dumps 40% of its snow in the Francon quarry, forming a glacier that doesn’t fully melt in summer, and contains snow from as far back as 2008. A UQAM researcher wants to use this glacier to provide AC to the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Your last comment was on the impact on small businesses. Only two of the comments you shared address that. The Guardian one I can’t find. Another does, and it’s from 20 years ago, with no sources. Hardly a compelling case.

Maybe (and I’m being generous) she just wants to rile up that base before shifting strategy later. If so, it’s a questionable strategy given that she’s running unopposed.

I wonder whether there’s an urban planning link here. The parking lots around NFL stadiums are vast and built around highways. We don’t have anything like it in Canada. With nothing else for fans to do in the area, tailgates were a natural consequence.

The government here is using a stack of different funding sources, private and public, to raise more money than they’d otherwise be able to raise if this was just government-run social housing. It’s not abdication, it’s just making the best play under the current circumstances. Dont hate the player.

So nothing bad is happening, but people are worried? I work in non-profit real estate. Of all the non-profit developers in Quebec, I don’t know a single one where private interests aren’t involved. Condemn this project for having a private element and you have to condemn the whole non-profit sector.
