But how? Seriously.

With any luck, the Commander's third team QB will destroy the Cowboys. Netflix must be really thrilled to have such an important game involving key NFL non-contenders.

The biggest Christmas ornaments I've ever seen, on 6th Avenue catercorner Radio City Music Hall.

I went out to take photos of the Christmas lights yesterday, and for the life of my I could not get the camera to stay in focus for this one shot. When I finally got the photo in focus (well, sort of), I ended up liking the out of focus shot better. Here are the two photos.

Tom Brady still holds the record for being the oldest QB to start an NFL game.

Rivers is playing well so far—but than any number of QBs playing this year. The only remaining question is whether he can still take hits with his dad body.

I’ll never understand how fans can boo their own team when it has a winning record. People are just spoiled.

Well, that was among the wildest, greatest games in NFL history. The Bears won? You’re kidding.

I can't think of anything more horrible than being murdered by your own child, except perhaps discovering that your child had murdered someone else.

I hear you. I understand that none of the people who were laid off with me have been able to find full-time work and only some of them have been able to find steady freelance work.

I have a few freelance gigs that are helping to pay the bills, but it is discouraging.

I do hope, OTOH, that the people who are posting ads for ghost jobs will end up on the employment line themselves and face the same challenge of finding a job that I and many other people have. Their behavior is really sick.

And what do you know, the latest company to do this to me just made an announcement that is sure to scare off potential investors. I would hope that the company goes bankrupt, but that would be unfair to the innocent employees who may lose their jobs.

Have I applied for any ghost jobs? It appears that many of my applications have been for jobs that do not exist. One tip-off is that I have applied for a job, been told that another candidate has been chosen, and then saw the exact same job reposted on LinkedIn by that employer the next day.

Pat Wallace @patwallace05.bsky.social · 09/12/2025
The second explanation for why a company might post a ghost job is that the company is in dire financial straits and wants to reassure investors: "See! We have tons of job openings! We can't be going under!"

Pat Wallace @patwallace05.bsky.social · 09/12/2025
According to some sources, ghost jobs constitute up to 25% of advertised job openings. There are two main explanations as to why companies might post ghost jobs. The first is essentially an out-of-control HR department that is gathering resumes for the future to meet its KPIs.

I've been looking for work since I got laid off at the end of August, and one big time-waster in my job search has been ghost jobs. These are jobs that are advertised as being open, but which do not actually exist.

I think it is good MNF played that old clip of Howard Cosell announcing Lennon’s death—it reminds us that this is just a game. #nfl #mnf

I remember hearing about John Lennon’s death while I watched the Tonight Show. If I recall, that Monday Night Football game was boring, so I had switched the channel.

The way people complain about Chris Collinsworth makes me wonder what they would do if they had to listen to someone truly obnoxious, like Howard Cosell.

The new edition of the Beatles Anthology is well-worth watching, but I wouldn’t buy the DVDs because I already have the DVDs for the previous version. While all the changes makes the new version better, there just isn’t enough value to warrant shelling out more cash.

Pat Wallace @patwallace05.bsky.social · 08/12/2025
The last episode is about how and why they created the first edition of the Anthology. While that may seem lame, in truth it contains some of the best bits, as there is a lot more footage of the men working together, and some of the most intimate interviews in the whole series.

So what is new? The footage has been remastered so that it renders better on high definition TVs. All of the episodes have subtle changes in contents and editing. Episode 8 is completely different, giving a lot more detail on their last two albums and the breakup.

I just finished watching the 2025 edition of the Beatles Anthology. It was good, but unexpected. It has no newly filmed material—everything new comes from the interviews for the previous edition and the Get Back archives. #Beatles #Anthology

When I was young, in my house we always used the word "divan" to mean sofa. Since my parents travelled a lot when they were young, I've no idea what region in the US uses "divan." Any ideas? #words #language #idioms

Nothing the NFL will ever do will match the falling of the Berlin Wall or the feats of Jesse Owen’s. Chris Berman is being epically fatuous here.

I’m happy for the people there. From a historical perspective, Grant and Sherman’s understanding of total war informs modern warfare in a way that is often under appreciated. This was one area where Grant may well have been a genius.

Actually, I constantly think of Liu Bang’s rebellion against Qin hegemony and the debilitating—though biblically righteous—effects of Sherman’s March on the South.

A key segment of the job market isn’t hiring. These businesses say why.
Small companies, which employ more than 40 percent of the nation’s workforce, tend to experience financial shocks more acutely than their corporate peers.
