In short yes, if they have to pay out less in claims, rates will decrease. If they pay out more, they will increase. Better materials are more expensive up front though, so there are trade offs.

They tried to make that almost that sitcom. Powerless was about a Wayne Enterprises R&D group that makes devices to help people survive supervillain attacks. It was canceled halfway through the first season

It's fine not to like cape shit. Vigilantes fighting crime is a pretty silly genre conceit. Alan Moore pointed that out in Watchmen pretty well. But it's the genre and so no matter how much Bruce donates, he is going to be back on the streets soon They just want a comic about the Russian revolution

Also the comics have had Bruce doing philanthropy since at least the 70s. We are not the first generation to think about this shit. It's been addressed multiple times in the actual comics.

It's got a classic old country theme (being cheated on), and sounds more 90s/00s country than modern country, which actually makes it stand out against the sea of bro country slop that is modern Nashville. Could represent listeners being tired of the modern scene and retreating to nostalgia.

Less worried about the director than the writer. Kinberg does not have a great track record. Like his claim to fame is writing the worst Xmen movies.

Talking to a lot of his supporters, some of his appeal was that he would be able to just walk in and fix everything using business smarts and common sense. He was a new guy, unbeholden to party orthodoxy or special interests. It wasn't true, but they wanted to believe

I think it's just the feeling the president has of how far they can push their policy preferences without incurring backlash from the electorate. Sometimes the voters do send clear messages. Divided governments or supermajorities are strong signals. Trump governed maximally regardless of mandate

They think that giving one person God-king level of control everything is like the optimal management structure for everything. It's part of Silicon Valley dogma at this point.

Worker/not worker is not* what modern political discourse revolves around. Like if you tell me someone works for a living I cannot make any assumptions about that person's political beliefs. A massive majority of both parties voters are workers. Even the majority of Trumps supporters are workers.

If the definition is too broad it ceases to be a useful identifier. The political and material interests of people change as their income rises even if the source of that income is still work. Worker/not worker is just what modern political discourse revolves around

The fact that physical disk sales have collapsed kinda gives away that this is something that most people only care about in an abstract way. It's hard to fight market apathy

They have redefined it as indistinguishable from crippling social anxiety and expect the whole world to give them accommodation. And it's worked. Technology has made not interacting with people easier than ever. But that just makes the remaining interactions more untolerable.

I think most of the aux port complaints are from audiophile people who don't want to run everything through Bluetooth. Most normies kids used cheap ass skullcandy level headphones in the wired days and use the same in the Bluetooth era

Cars have actually tracked inflation pretty closely when you account for trim levels. Extremely bare bones trims have mostly disappeared though.

Nomadic pastoralist tended to favor marginal grasslands that aren't very useful to gatherers/farmers. While farmers and gatherers were competing over the same land. That's a stronger rivalry. But in general competition pressures put everyone in conflict with each other

Like i ride some protected bike trail and without cars, I feel fine without wearing a helmet since I'm only going 15-18 mph at most on smooth terrain. I've also ridden on some roads where you can easily get up to 35mph downhill and I would never ride that without a helmet. Just feels dangerous.

patternrettap.bsky.social @patternrettap.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Most bicycle fatalities are due to cars and helmets aren't great at saving your life there. They are good at protecting your head in other crashes though. I guess most commuter cycling is at low enough speed and difficulty that the crash risk is low. At higher speeds I would always have a helmet

The Dahl changes were just weird. A few of them were fine. Adjusting some terms to avoid offensive have become unacceptable isn't bad. But they did stuff like, we can longer longer describe Augustus Gloop as fat anyone. Most changes went beyond merely bring it up to modern standards

The lesson politicians learned from Obamacare is that if you touch healthcare, the backlash will be intense, you will be crucified for transition pains, and you will get no credit once the dust has settled and you have created a new healthcare standard that cannot be touched

High housing costs have broken people's brain. It's easy to think "if I paid less for housing, I'd be doing great. In the past people paid less for housing, therefore they were all doing great back in the boomer time"

Boots theory is good way of illustratingthe idea of poverty traps in an way people understand but doesn't actually model consumer behavior well. Wealthy people often prioritize other things than minimizing total cost of ownership

Coffee maker may be a bad example too. People pay extra for features and coffee quality but heating elements are pretty reliable overall. My office break room coffee maker is cheap as hell but has lasted longer than most of the employees

I tested the Vimes theory of boots by buying a pair of Goodyear welt boots and then realized that cheap shoes with lots rubber and foam are just more comfortable for everyday use. I'll use the nice pair for when I feel fancy and cycle through everyday shoes that last 2-3 years and be happy

IKEA is good enough, and it being much lighter and easier to move is a real advantage (and being cheap enough that leaving it behind is a real option for a long move). I've seen my parents have to deal with moving heavy solid wood furniture and it often doesn't seem worth it

Not really. His funds assets got bought up quickly and profitably for the fund that bought him out. All of the owned assets appear to be legit. They were just over leveraged enough that a sudden correction margin called them.

Pretty common. Even Walmart bags for you, but dedicated baggers are more rare these days. The cashier does it during/after scanning. The biggest chain that doesn't do it for you is Aldi and it's German. And oddly enough the warehouse stores like Costco don't bag for you here.

The choices are 1) spend a ton of money to redevelop of domestic commercial shipping capabilities that will actually be used. 2) Mitigate foreign dependence issues as needed and save a ton of money. Plenty of our allies make good ships cheaply. Just don't piss all of them off at the same time
110
patternrettap.bsky.social @patternrettap.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
That would be an argument if we had an inefficient, yet viable commercial shipping industry. Instead we have a commercial shipping industry that can't compete against domestic rail/road/air and so is basically dead.

Do they think that if they can make it to a courtroom they can just start subpoenaing hospital records based on a hunch? This is the dem version of Republicans demanding total access to the election records so they can try and find fraud. And they got laughed out of the courtroom too.

I suppose they think they could take it to court, but the burden of proof is on them. "Do you have any evidence he is dead", "No, but he is refusing to give proof that he is alive to my satisfaction". "But no actual evidence he is dead, just speculation" "yes". "Case dismissed"

These people also seem to be under the impression that they can force action. Like if they appoint a Dem senator, McConnell must give proof of life or they win. Instead the president of the Senate (Vance) would just refuse to seat an invalid appointment.

Yeah, A classisist being annoyed a a modernist adaption of a classic work is one of the most predictable responses imaginable. Like Nolans's message is very clearly holding a mirror to modern society and saying "this is us, beware". A 100% true to the poem adaptation was not the goal.

The problem is people don't like the lesser of two evils argument. You will get killed if the unemployment rates goes crazy under your watch, and if the inflation rate goes crazy, even if you did it to avoid unemployment. Even if you correctly choose the lesser evil, you'll still get the blame
000

Yeah, but the instant depreciation hit isn't as bad as it used to be. The big negative equity numbers come from super long loan terms that barely recover their equity, and then rolling that loan into another new car before you pay it off

The problem with Harris running again, is that she doesn't currently hold any office. Like if you run and fail, but still hold office you can still rack up more accomplishments and do stuff and build your faction and try again next time. Just running again after a 4 year hibernation is death

People without chronic conditions who are mostly healthy and therefore really haven't actually had to use the system that much but this just gives them unearned faith in the system. They are very vulnerable to fear mongering because it's easy to conflate "I'm healthy" with I have good healthcare

Even if someone did. Demonyns aren't required to be unique and usually context can easily show if you meant country vs continent. Like should we come up with a new name for people from Georgia too? The name is the name and the demonyns follows. 100% uniqueness is not a requirement
