A thought for the day, stolen from Mastodon:

Person: What's the dumbest thing you've ever done?

Me: Awfully bold of you to assume I've peaked.

This oak tree, in #KewGardens, was retained and painted as a warning of what we're doing to our country and our planet. #GlobalWarming is killing us, and still we *INCREASE* the damage we do every second. #NetZero is just the start; #recovery comes after... theconversation.com/heatwaves-wh...

Found on Mastodon (the picture too): UK politics is hilarious RN. A lot better than the bleak shit we've had over the greatest part of the last two decades. Tad rude #ukpol #Clacton #CountBinface #FarageOut Edit: should have worn my reading glasses when typing 😂

I've meant for some time to properly check out #Quakers, the Society of Friends. Now a post I read has nudged me into it. I'd like to find Quakers I can learn from. Just interest — I'm already happy with God, and my relationship with Her. Are there any Friends here? #religion #SocietyOfFriends

That is where the hierarchy of sympathy does its damage. Anxiety and depression can be recognised as suffering.

Other presentations are morally reinterpreted as defective personality. Mood swings are seen as selfishness, suspicion as nastiness, hearing voices as dangerousness and rapid shifts between closeness and anger as manipulation.

Personality disorder labels are especially vulnerable to this moralising. They are often heard not as descriptions of distress but as verdicts on character.

#ClimateChange and #GlobalWarming are here now, in your country and mine — all countries! theconversation.com/britains-rel...

These rapid swings between drought and deluge pose serious practical challenges for everyone in the UK. Water companies must plan for both droughts and floods, even within the same year. Farmers face uncertain growing conditions, with crops rotting in the wet soil one month, and drying out in droughts a few months later. Infrastructure designed for the climate of the past may not cope with the extremes of the future.

Understanding these changes isn’t just an academic exercise. It’s essential for helping communities, businesses and governments prepare for what’s coming. As Britain experiences these climate extremes at first-hand, it is crucial to build resilience into plans for hotter and drier summers, and warmer wetter winters.
