It's not just rent controls. The sheriff auction is for a large lien on the buildings for an old liability judgement to the tune of 1.25M. The building is distressed for a number of reasons that affect its sale price here.

The land value tax bit in here is very interesting but the IBX will not benefit from city of yes because it doesn’t apply to new mass transit, only the existing network. So prepare for another fun round of upzoning debate if this ever comes to pass.

Pre-holiday weekend news dump from DSS... the 2026 unsheltered homeless count in NYC, 4,991, is the highest since the count started in 2005. Just 3.5% of NYC's homeless are unsheltered. This year's survey was conducted in March, rather than January, because of the cold spell.

No, I've asked several times and she just says that the admin should drop the lawsuit, which I'm sure frustrates City Hall. She gets to hit the mayor on his broken promise here and presumably wants the Mayor to take it out of some of his other priorities b/c no new revenue coming at this hour.
