Love to my cousin Inger, who passed away yesterday. Daughter of my great-aunt (but really proper grandma) Ingeborg and great uncle Per. A family full of love, who provided a lot that I was missing growing up.

The Disappearers is so good. Like A Little Life, except not a hate-filled pile of garbage.

Jeffrey Archer's death reminds me of the time he told a really boring story while a guest on Dame Edna's show. "Marvellous" said Edna after it petered out to its conclusion, "and I'm sure that'll make a wonderful anecdote someday".

A flight attendant friend once told me that if a flight’s gone badly, they’ll walk the aisle at the end with the rubbish bag going, “Your/you’re trash? Your/you’re trash?”

So being parent you’re just never not slightly unwell. There’s no health, there are only degrees of cold and flu along a spectrum of “blah” to “walking death”. Sincerely, a walking dead.

I left off the title. THE PELICAN AND HIS BLIMP. It’s a book about dads. And blimps!

New book out this Thursday! And I’ve said it before, but I think it’s one of the best books I’ve ever written. Illustrated by the incredible Tim Miller.

Are you a young reader? It's Banned Books Week. Seek out a banned book. Find out what they're afraid of you knowing. Reading is revolutionary. Don't let anyone take it from you.

Ah, the soul-sucking corrections needed when you've decided to change the tenses of a long section in your book. And you never get them all...

When I was young, this mostly meant Stephen King and Judy Blume. So I read all of Stephen King and all of Judy Blume. Now, so much to choose from! Get them in before some school board or Reform parent decides they're uncomfortable with you knowing stuff!

Never been a huge fan of the word “craft” as it pertains to writing. Craft is making a chair. Art is making a beautiful chair. Writing is only part craft. The rest of it is magic.

My husband and I once got called a homophobic slur on a Tube platform. My response was immediate and loud and profane, and reader, I made a scene. Was proud of myself for not taking it. Then I had to go lie down for 45 minutes.

One of the great hypocrisies (among many) of death penalty supporters is that their political creed is fundamentally based on the government being completely incompetent to manage anything except 100% accuracy in death penalty cases.
