Carney has done this largely by being an old-school Progressive Conservative: that was the conservative party here, until the early 2000s when they merged with Reform, a populist-right party based on western Canadian grievances.

I have the same serious misgivings about many of Carney’s policies, but I am very glad that it’s him in power rather than PP, under the circs. My hope is that, when this current political crisis has passed, voters will then choose a more progressive option, as in the UK after WWII.
