Volunteer interest form for Cycle Forward
Kia ora koutou, On the 27th of September I have organised a cycling challenge event, called Cycle Forward, to raise money for Wellington charities. What is the event? Cycle Forward is an 8 hour event running from 9am to 5pm on the Te Ara Tupua cycleway, a beautiful new shared use path that connects Ngauranga to Petone. Riders will form relay teams to take on the challenge of riding as many laps of Te Ara Tupua as they can. There will be an event hub outside the Waimarino Rowing Club at the western end of Petone Beach, which will include an information desk, limited food stalls, first aid, bike maintenance, and public toilet facilities. For this event to be successful, WE NEED YOU! Volunteers are needed for the following roles: I am looking for volunteers to help this event in any of the following ways: Providing home-baked goods on the day of the event, that will be sold as part of the fundraising and sustain the riders; Assisting at the event hub (registration/information desk and home-baked goods stall); Marshalling traffic at the Waimarino car park around the start (8-9am) and end (4:30-5:30pm) of the event; Marshalling the turn-around point at the Ngauranga end of the Te Ara Tupua cycleway; Qualified first aid support; Bicycle maintenance support. All roles will operate on shifts throughout the event, typically for 2 hours. If you are able to help with any of these roles for one or more shifts, please complete this form. I'd be so grateful! After receiving volunteer registration forms, I will draw up and share a roster. You can expect to receive a following email from cycleforward123go@gmail.com. This will include more details about the event and how you can help. Motivation for the event. Globally, it's been concerning to see that our ideal and favourable modes of transport, are destroying nature. I believe that supporting the development of cycleways can really make a huge difference to the culture of relying on petrol cars. There are more environmentally friendly modes of transport that need to be supported. My intention with Cycle Forward is to encourage a community that uses healthier and more sustainable methods of transport.

Cycle Forward - Registration and Indemnity form
Kia ora koutou, On the 27th of September I have organised a cycling challenge event, called Cycle Forward, to raise money for Wellington charities. For this event to be successful, WE NEED YOU! A lap from here to Ngauranga and back is about 10km. How many laps can you and your team ride? As part of the challenge, participants will seek sponsorship from family and friends to raise money towards the chosen charities: Cycle Wellington and Cycling Without Age (Lower Hutt branch - Riding with Olivia). These charities do amazing work to help make cycling more accessible for Wellingtonians. How do you enter? It is recommended that you form relay teams of 2-4 people. As it is a relay, you will have breaks for rest, food, and hydration. The larger your team, the longer these breaks will be, and the less distance you will individually need to cycle. Each participant in your team will need to complete this registration and indemnity form. If you do not have a team, no need to worry, we will shuffle you into a team who you will meet at the event hub before the beginning of the event. Cycle Forward is for bikers aged 14 and above. Participants under 18 will also need to have a parent / guardian fill out the parent / guardian permission section of this form. Acceptance of entries is at the discretion of the event organisers. After submitting your registration form, you can expect to receive a following email within a week from cycleforward123go@gmail.com. This will include more details about the event and a sponsorship form so that you can begin your fundraising. The more sponsors you individually find, the more likely we can all reach the goal of raising $2,000 from this event. By registering for the event, you agree to the conditions of entry outlined in this for. Other things you need to know. You are responsible for your own transport to and from the event (including your bike). You are responsible for providing your own bike in road worthy condition. If you don't know whether your bike is mechanically sound for your safe participation in this event, please book it in to a bike shop for a service before the event. Before the event begins, riders will partake in a bike safety check. Adult volunteers will be available to provide advice on bike maintenance issues during the event. Along Te Ara Tupua, there are bike maintenance stations that riders can access. To ensure that the general public can still access the path, cyclists will be briefed on adhering to safe cycling and shared pathway etiquette. In registering for the event, you are agreeing to abide by these guidelines. Giving way to young children and elderly will be a priority. The event is intended as a challenge, rather than a race. Riders will be need to bring appropriate clothing and we will provide guidance on this following registration. The organisers will monitor the weather forecast and make a decision 24 hours prior to the event as to whether the event will go ahead. If the weather conditions are not suitable, the event may be cancelled or postponed to the following weekend, and the event organisers will attempt to notify you as soon as possible. Thankyou so much for supporting Cycle Forward:)

As we all know, people regularly make these sorts of comments online encouraging violence against cyclists, often attached to their real identities, and there are rarely consequences. I'm glad to see someone being held accountable because this type of dehumanizing language has real consequences.
