“Soap bubbles” at the base of a yellow birch this morning. Apparently from natural "tree soap". We had a hard spring rain overnight. The rain mixes with the tree's natural oils, cascades down, and the bark's ridges acts like an egg beater whipping the mixture into suds. Very cool!

I support better cycling infrastructure and more opportunities to bike. But the “just ditch your car” narrative ignores many people’s realities. In Canada, cycling means snow, freezing rain, high winds, dark commutes for much of the year. The breezy sunny imagery isn’t everyone’s experience.

Garden supplies and birthday balloons.. yes, but let’s not forget the murder and maiming of innocent civilians in this illegal war… that horror unfortunately gets buried in the pocketbook issues for the West particularly Americans.

@mark-carney.bsky.social Many Canadians are disappointed in your recent statement supporting the U.S./Israeli strikes on Iran. Many see these actions as a violation of the UN Charter and international law. Canada must consistently uphold international legal norms, even when it’s hard.

Plato argued democracy contains the conditions for its own undoing. Democratic freedom slides into excess, and the desire for absolute liberty eventually creates the conditions for tyranny. Corporate media is increasingly captured and used to erode and eventually destroy constitutional norms.

And wile you’re at it.. bundle it into a huge omnibus bill that kills Citizens United, and reinstates the Fairness Doctrine to include cable and the rest of it.. what other democracy- saving laws should be in there?

People say aging rockers lack self-awareness. That they should bow out quietly. But aging doesn’t suck any more than a sunset sucks. It just changes the light. Sure the bodies have shifted but that’s not failure. That’s the human arc.

US military bases in Europe are on sovereign soil. Germany, for example, retains full sovereignty over its territory and could in principle terminate or revise arrangements under which US bases operate. Or at least signal that US presence is a privilege not a right,

Wrong reaction.. EU needs to signal strength and some leverage. This document normalizes the idea that Europe must plan for a future in which the US is not a reliable ally and may be actively interfering in its internal political order.

Trump is goading the EU. It’s time they started to flex and push back on the “impotent” narrative. Germany for one could signal US bases are not a right but a privilege. They could start with tighter constraints on how US forces operate on German soil and ramp up from there.
