I'm currently 41, planning to have another two doses around 55, should know around 65 if it helped 🫣😬

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Yeah well aware of my level of privilege to be able to spend that much money on it. The local pharmacist is of the opinion that shingrix should be 100% state funded based on the dementia benefits alone.

$750nzd for the two doses, so yeah around $400usd

A few friends have had shingles and said "go into debt to get the vax" and also the potential dementia risk reduction is worth it to me given family history.

120

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Our local pharmacy has a policy of "if they want the vax, lets work out how to make it happen" So it was no questions asked but 100% out of pocket.

I come from a somewhat anti vax family on account of me having some pretty horrific reactions as a baby, I was shit scared of getting the first covid jab, but now I get that every six months along with flu. Also caught up on mmr and had shingrix recently too.

Do NOT use Harrison's. Based on the experiences of several friends and colleagues.

I went to my elderly neighbour's funeral in the morning, what I think was a topdressing plane buzzed the chapel. It felt like everyone hit the deck

Also if you get a system without a battery, get an inverter that can do daytime emergency power.

Thought they had her being played by Sydney Sweeney at first, which initially gave me a "perfection dot meme" but really umcomfortable response. Only to realise it's actually Holmes and that caused even more mental whiplash.

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

The thumbnail legit made me think she was being played by Sydney Sweeney. Mental whiplash there.

My pharmacist was happy for me to get Shingrix age 41, worth asking if you can afford it.

010

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Just had both doses age 41, it's a value for money vaccine 🤣

010

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Dementia is looking hereditary in my family so it's some comfort long term...

010

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Huh, I had it early both for anti shingles, and for the large chunk of evidence that suggests it reduces the risk of dementia

130

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Yeah, more that graphic says inelegible under 50, which at least according to my pharmacist isn't the case

010

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I just had shingrix at 41, no issues?! Other than the price.

About 130kWh/week here for the primary commuter car, about 5kWh/week for the go to the train station car 🤣

Family friend was a ranger on Kapiti Island, his kids spent their first ~5 years thinking that having several takahe in the paddling pool with you was 100% routine

And the system is setup such that workers who follow the standards to the letter are legally protected in the event of property damage or injuries.

040

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

So the standard has been changed to allow certain PV and EV charger systems to work (good, improves safety if done right) The reason why us electricals are mad about this is that the way the new standard is worded: it's compliant to build an installation that is 100% capable of killing people.

We have been on Contact's good night's plan for a couple of years, with EV and evening showers it works out significantly better than even the staff deal from another retailer.

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

I also suspect the other avenue for dodgy scrap is through car wreckers who have cable shredding machines and sell granulated copper to the recyclers. Again car wreckers deal in a lot of cash, have plausibly poor bookkeeping etc.

100

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

Use purchases of scrap metal to make unclean cash vanish and buy clean metal. Use clean cash to buy clean metal. Piles get combined for export. Use the rest of the clean cash to buy unclean cash.

110

Patrick Herd @patrickherd.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

Word on the street is that one of the larger recyclers in welly is used to launder drug money. So potentially something happening there. Also I wouldn't be surprised if there's a black market sending shipping containers full of copper overseas
