Combining science and hobby. I designed this DNA whiteboard marker holder for my desk at the UMCG Genetics department. Free model: www.printables.com/model/182665... #3Dprinting #DNA #genetics
A 3D printed model using a dark brown wood filled filament. There is a round base and a standing double helix. The helix contains holes that are used hold whiteboard markers.

🧬 New preprint alert! After years of collaborative work across 52 datasets we are presenting eQTLGen phase 2: a genome-wide eQTL meta-analysis covering 43,301 blood samples: www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6... (1/8)

Great paper. Can we then also conclude that rare recessive diseases would have been more common, where it not for the negative effects that are exerted on carriers?

For the next Q&A: to what extent can nato shoot drones before reaching nato borders? I reckon Ukraine won't object. But for drones incoming from Belarus I suspect there might be legal or political consequences.

Dutch public news recently reported on pacifists: nos.nl/nieuwsuur/ar.... They claim that increases in armament spending, increases the likelihood of war. Given the increased cost of war for aggressors, this seems unlikely to me. Is there scientific evidence proofing or disproving this relation?

A general question I have about the bargaining friction framework for international conflicts is: Are there underlying assumptions that might not always be met in real life. And more specifically to today’s topic: Does bargaining friction still apply to leaders who are acting irrationally?

The tissue specific networks and the Downstreamer software are available at: github.com/molgenis/sys... Thank you Olivier Bakker, @anniquec.bsky.social, Lude Franke and many others for a great collaboration. 4/4

Height key genes are enriched for growth abnormality genes, including many genes known causing Ehlers–Danlos or osteogenesis imperfecta. We suspect that the other height key genes could be interesting targets when interpreting variants of unknown significance in patients with these diseases. 3/4

The key genes for common diseases are enriched for genes known to cause rare diseases as demonstrated by enrichments of Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) terms. The key gene enrichments of HPO terms are much stronger than the enrichments of GWAS loci genes. 2/4

Downstreamer is now available: www.nature.com/articles/s41... We used 57 tissue specific gene expression networks to identify key genes of common diseases. 78% of these key genes are located outside of GWAS loci. 1/4
