I bought this handmade pot from a potter in a tiny Cretan village this summer. He was clearly skeptical I could actually manage to cook in it - I must have looked too foreign and urbanite. I will show this to him next year 😎 🍽️🍜 Love and patience required! (4 hours on the stove at min temp)

Meet our local pepper variety. Big, thick skinned and meaty. As the skin is inedible, it’s cooked by inserting thin garlic slices with salt through a small slit and fry them in abundant oil. To eat, the skin is separated and you only eat the inside. We call it “vegetable caviar” for a reason 😎🍽️🍜

Well today’s been a “balmy” 31C. After the eerie silence of the past 3 days, with no birds to be heard, today’s chirping feels like a resurrection of sorts. After spending well over 10 summers in Crete, it was time to try and learn the language. I enrolled an online course with Athens University. Today I had my first test - 90.48/100!! I can’t believe I have been able to give a go at a language with completely different letters! Sample question 👇🏼
