Not sure what changed, but in the last few days I've been getting fairly regular #spam over #mastodon. It is a different, random account each time and includes a hella sketchy looking google share link and 30 or so random accounts tagged under it. Most have been from Mastodon.social, but I'm […]

I love Adam Shand's 'Realistic Wellington Calendar' and have used it as the basis for the rule set for Can You Beat Wellington (@CanYouBeat ). But what it was really missing was a clock hand to tell you where we currently are in the year. So, in honor of being […] [Original post on mastodon.nz]
Adam Shand's Realistic Wellington Weather Calendar. It is a circle, with segments representing the 6 seasons of Wellington: Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring 1, Shitsville and, Spring 2. I've added a clock hand that points to where we are currently in the year and it is now pointing towards 'Shitsville'.

Someone came up to me at work today and said that they have Can you beat Wellington (@CanYouBeat ) on their phone and they check it every day. That absolutely made my year. You can 100% beat Wellington’s weather today, but you can’t beat that.

Weekend project idea: Mixtape. A web app for making someone a mixtape the old way. You pick every song yourself; no suggestions. Each side has a hard time limit. It goes to one person only, with a short note on the inlay card. The person you give it to knows it's from you and sees the song […]

Why does a oven and a microwave even need a clock? And why does it have to be so bloody difficult to change twice a year without accidentally starting a hour long timer where the oven doesn't work? #daylightsavings #nz

Overheard in the break room: A women telling her colleagues about her taxidermied cat that is currently vacuumed packed in her freezer. "I opened the freezer up the other day and thought, I really must do something about that cat".

Side note, I was sitting here thinking 'today would be a good day for a swim in the harbour'. Then I looked at the water temp - 11.5 degrees. Maybe I'll wait a few more weeks.

There is one person who is constantly disagreeing with the @CanYouBeat assessment. Today is a lovely day, buts its barely more than 11 degrees out there, forecast to hit a high of 12.6. That would be borderline in winter, but spring - come on. We need some level of standards right here. Two […]

@CanYouBeat I say the wind was 'still', but there was a fairly consistent 15 - 20kmph northerly for most of the afternoon. I know, I had the headwind for the majority of my round the bays bike ride. But that is what passes for a 'still day' in Wellington.

@CanYouBeat Okay! Issue fixed. It was wrongly calling Wellington days bad when the wind felt fine. The site uses Open-Meteo's daily maximum wind speed, but Wellington often has calm mornings and breezy evenings. A single gusty hour at 9pm was failing the whole day. Switched to the daytime […]
