HONORING
TESSA HULLS
The members of the Thirty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature extend their congratulations to Tessa Hulls
for receiving the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in Memoir and Autobiography for her graphic novel, Feeding Ghosts.
As only the second graphic novel in history to earn this prestigious distinction, Feeding Ghosts is a
testament to the exceptional creativity, originality, and talent of its author.
Tessa’s lifelong love of reading—nurtured during a childhood without television and fueled by endless
hours in libraries and the outdoors—laid the foundation for her remarkable artistic journey. Over the course of
nearly a decade traveling across all seven continents, Tessa meticulously crafted her debut work, a deeply
personal and ambitious project combining visual artistry with profound narrative depth.
The Pulitzer Prize committee, through administrator Marjorie Miller, praised Feeding Ghosts as “an
affecting work of literary art and discovery whose illustrations bring to life three generations of Chinese
women—the author, her mother, and grandmother—and the experience of trauma handed down with
family histories.”
This national recognition reflects not only Tessa’s immense skill and dedication, but also underscores
the vital cultural contribution of her work. Her achievement brings great pride to the Juneau community and the
entire state of Alaska.
The members of the Thirty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature recognize and celebrate the extraordinary
accomplishment of Tessa Hulls, as one of Alaska’s most distinguished writers and artists. Her profound cultural
impact will continue to inspire Alaskans of all ages for years to come, and her success in Feeding Ghosts marks
only the beginning of a lasting literary legacy.

It should be made clear that the "Political insiders" Treg is talking about here are his colleagues in the Dunleavy administration who he advised as Attorney General. The same people clearing the way for him despite elections law violations... Which he committed repeatedly and intentionally.
“Man, I’m getting whiplash,” he wrote. “This campaign has always been about standing up to political insiders and special interests who think they get to decide what’s best for Alaska. Then they tried to take me off the ballot. They realized that if they applied the same standard they used against me, they’d have to remove multiple candidates from the ballot, throwing our election into chaos. So they put me back on. That tells you everything you need to know.”

#akleg I wonder if this has anything to do with outstanding subpoenas?
The Republican Governors Association, meanwhile, has not issued a statement on the Alaska gubernatorial race since primary voting took place last month. Officials there did not respond to a request for comment this week.

A national group that backed Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s re-election campaign in 2022 must comply with a subpoena issued as part of a yearslong investigation, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled Friday.

In a 13-page decision, the court rejected a series of arguments offered by attorneys representing the Republican Governors Association, and it ordered the organization to comply with the subpoena.

The decision was authored by Justice Dario Borghesan, a Dunleavy appointee.

Attorneys representing the RGA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

Since 2022, the Alaska Public Offices Commission has been seeking documents from the RGA — a national group that backs Republican candidates for governor — to determine whether or not the group illegally colluded with Dunleavy’s 2022 campaign.

The RGA is considered an “independent expenditure” group and thus is barred by law from coordinating with a political candidate’s campaign. In 2022, two progressive groups filed complaints against the RGA.

The state watchdog agency APOC, which regulates political campaign spending, began an investigation, but the RGA refused to comply with a subpoena seeking banking information and relevant communications.

Anchorage-based attorney Scott Kendall, who represents the political groups that filed complaints against the RGA three years ago, said that if RGA now complies with the subpoenas, APOC can actually judge the original complaints on their merits.

That could have implications for next year’s governor election, Kendall said on Friday.

“Are they going to participate (in the 2026 election)? If they’re going to participate, are they going to disclose thei…

How the sausage got made...
On another tape, Pete Kott, the former Republican speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives, crowed as he described beating back a tax bill opposed by oil companies. "I had to cheat, steal, beg, borrow and lie," Kott said. "Exxon's happy. BP's happy. I'll sell my soul to the devil."

"Well, that will stay in this room," one lobbyist said as a midnight session wound down.

It did not, of course. Since breaking into public view a year ago when federal agents raided lawmakers' offices and homes — finding $32,200 neatly stacked in a closet of Kott's condo — the federal probe has produced four indictments, three convictions, three guilty pleas and a rapt audience keen to see how high into Alaska's political hierarchy the rot reaches.

#akleg So yeah. It looks like Ballot Measure 2 would repeal all the limits on gubernatorial race that 71% of Alaskans just approved.
Here's the language from Ballot Measure 1 that puts restrictions on contributions to joint campaigns for Gov and Lt. Gov.

Section 5. AS 15.13.070(g) is amended to read:

(g) Where contributions are made to a joint campaign for governor and lieutenant governor, (1) an individual may contribute not more than $4,000 each election cycle; and (2) a group may contribute not more than $8,000 each election cycle. Here's the part of ballot measure 2 that says, "AS 15.13.070(g) is repealed."

... Ok, to be fair, I'm probably a hypocrite on this one. Because I do think it's hilarious that some PAC is burning hundreds of thousands on boosting a "spoiler" candidate who is just going to bail.
Even if the PACs succeed in elevating little-known candidates into one of the top four spots in the primary, they are not guaranteed to accept a spot on the November ballot.

A candidate who finishes among the top four in the primary can withdraw from the general election, potentially allowing the fifth-place finisher to advance.

That is exactly what Grayson intends to do, he said Wednesday from his home in Arizona.

“I won’t be on the ballot in Alaska because if I do finish at the top four, I’ll just do what Nancy Dahlstrom and Matthew Salisbury did in the House race two years ago,” said Grayson, referring to the 2024 U.S. House race, when the third- and fourth-place finishers dropped out of the race amid pressure from the Alaska Republican Party, elevating the fifth- and sixth-place finishers onto the general election ballot.

“You just withdraw. That’s why I don’t understand this now,” said Grayson.
