As of 17.18 on 27 January, it looks significantly different- well done to all those who complained directly to the Beeb.

Asking for permission after doing what you want is nearly always faaaaaaar more efficient than asking beforehand

True, but it wasn't exactly an invasion- Russia had continued to maintain its military facilities in Crimea by mutual agreement with Ukraine, so they had defenders' advantage (and Sevastopol is very very defendable)

It'll probably turn out that Scotland has everything we need, and sadly now is not the time to be contemplating another Indyref.

There are different ways of being "better". It was "better" being a well-paid coal miner in the 1960s with reasonable housing & facilities, plus an assurance of work not just for you but for your sons (and for your wife and daughters in other industries deliberately located in the same pit village)

The title is "Trump vs the BBC" but it's actually Jonathan Pie vs the people with vested interests in humbling the BBC- especially GBeebies www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCMn...

Yes, I think that's akin to my problem with the series- I didn't feel any enthusiasm for turning to the next page (so in the end I just stopped reading and switched to something lighter like J.G. Ballard, whose "Wind From Nowhere" & "Drowned World" have been in my thoughts quite a lot recently)

PS: I wonder if the BBC can sue Karoline Leavitt for her "they are total, 100 percent fake news" claim?

The Panorama editing was unworthy of the BBC, but well within the bounds of First Amendment speech as a representation of the overall tone of the event.

Not just Trump's speech, the whole event. It was all (even the Twitter invitation on December 19: "Be there, will be wild") designed with one aim, and the word "peacefully" in his speech was a legal fig-leaf.

Bad news / good news from Whitehaven, England. The stepped path through Arrowthwaite Wood has turned into a cascade, but a) it's quite pretty, and b) the outlet specially provided for such situations is working, so the little lake on the main path should soon disappear

Trump has been fixated on Richard Blumenthal for years and years, because he always needs a go-to example of blatant long-term lying by a Democrat, and RB (exposed way back in 2010 by the New York Times) is the best he's got- though FAR less outrageous than Trump claims

From the article: "BBC insiders ... added it was clear from all news outlets that Reform was “setting the political weather”." 🤔Perhaps "from all news outlets" because the majority of them are controlled by people actively supporting Reform, shifting the Overton Window for "neutral" outlets.
