On this day, 15 October 1976, the Renfrew Motorway section of the M8 was opened. Built to connect Glasgow's Inner Ring Road with the Renfrew Bypass at Hillington, the four-mile route formed part of a wider programme of urban motorway construction that reshaped the city during the 1960s and 1970s.
