NPS#150 : Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. In the late 1600s, the Spanish quarried coquina stone made of compressed tiny sea shells to build this star fort. With While it changed hands over time, it never fell in battle. #nationalpark #nationalparkgeek #nps #nationalmonument

NPS#146 : Ninety Six National Historic Site. Revolutionary site where Greene, even with Kosciuszko working engineering feats of Z trenches, mines, etc, couldn't capture the Star Fort. NPS#145 : Fort Sumter National Monument. Sitting at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, this strategic island fort was the site of the first shots fired in the Civil War. Heavily bombarded throughout the war, only the bottom third of the walls remain. #nationalparks ##nationalparkgeek #nps ##ushistory

NPS#142 : Fort Scott National Historic Site. A crazy amount of history occurred on this little piece of land in a 25 year period between 1843-1868. Removal of Indigenous people, Mexican-American War, Underground Railroad, Santa Fe & Oregon Trails, Bleeding Kansas, Civil War, refugee camps and more.

NPS#137 Carl Sandburg NHP. Lillian Sandburg was the driver in moving Carl south to a place she could settle and continue her award winning work. Connemara Farms and her famous line of dairy goats thus became the home and office of the 3 time Pulitzer Prize winner.

NPS#134 Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. While surveyors have recognized the importance of the gap in the Appalachian Mountain chain since 1650, Daniel Boone and his Wilderness Trail made it a major thoroughfare for pioneers heading west. I completed the Bluegrass State, too!

NPS #133 - Manhattan Project - Oak Ridge The history of the secret city is told throughout 30 signs/stops in Oak Ridge. I've been to a few now and got my stamp today and talked to the Rangers, I'm counting it. 2 museums in town - Children's Museum and the American Museum of Science and Energy.

NPS#132 Saint-Gaudens NHS in New Hampshire an enchanting place of sculpture, gardens, and the history of Augustus Saint Gaudens. The light and space of the numerous studios are beautiful, but far surpassed by the magnificent sculptures. I confess i prefer his females to his extensive civil war men.

NPS #130 Tallgrass Prarie National Preseve was a beautiful hike in the great state of Kansas. Unfortunately the Bison 🦬 did not make an appearance. The smaller wildlife did and wildflowers were beautiful.
