Thanks @davidho.bsky.social for including me in the coveted collection of scientists you've photographed. I recently defended my PhD and wanted to share our new paper: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1... ELI5: Waves & bubbles really matter for ocean oxygen, and we show that using BGC-Argo+ data!

Double, double toil and trouble: As the climate warms, the oceans bubble. And those bubbles have a big impact on carbon storage, suggests new research by @paridhirustogi.bsky.social & colleagues. eos.org/research-spo...

More Bubbles Means More Variation in Ocean Carbon Storage - Eos
A new model accounting for the role of bubbles in air-sea gas exchanges suggests that ocean carbon uptake is more variable than previously thought.

Do bubbles matter for ocean carbon uptake? 🌊🫧 Yes, especially for local CO2 fluxes, where wave breaking can enhance variability by up to 40%. That’s an important consideration for #mCDR, where fluxes could otherwise be miscalculated. More in our paper here: [doi.org/10.1029/2024GB008382]
