The 23-book English detective series featuring DI Hillary Greene, by Faith Martin (starts with “Murder On The Oxford Canal”). Great writing, surprising and ingenious plots, and recurring characters that change and grow from their experiences. Just wanted to put that out there. 👍

How would you rewrite this sentence: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” I ‘m just playing devil’s advocate, lol. Seriously, your article made a lot of sense, and I learned from it. Thanks! 😁

Question 4 argues for charging user fees for temporary workers to access health care and education. HOWEVER, temporary workers pay the same federal and provincial taxes as Canadian citizens, taxes that are used to fund education and health care. The pamphlet ignores that fact.

Very nice! I like the different instruments, but especially the acoustic guitar at the beginning. Creates just the right atmosphere, and the birds are a nice touch. 👏 Is this part of an album?

The rule of law, properly applied, will be all that’s necessary to prosecute and punish those who violated it, if those who replace the GOP have the will to do so.

Support for Alberta separation 'too high,' Premier Smith says

She seems to have encouraged the separatists, or at least made it easier for them. There wouldn’t even be a referendum on separation if she’d stopped it to begin with. Snd now she turns around and says this:

Is Premier Smith doing anything to stop this?

I’ll bet when the Americans were asked at the border what was their purpose for visiting Canada they *didn’t* reply, “We’re here to help separatists conspire against and break up your country.”

I like a good western. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order: (I thought about adding “Bad Day at Black Rock,” but wasn’t sure it qualifies as a “western,” though it plays like one)

Have you tried Tess Gerritsen’s 13-book “Rizzoli and Isles” series? Great characters and gripping writing. Each book kept my interest from beginning to end. I hope she writes #14!

I think the current state of corruption and lawlessness in the US is not the fault of the constitution; rather, it is the fault of an electorate that tolerates and elects people to government who deliberately refuse to follow the constitution or honor their oaths of office.

After the changes made by Weiss, I was pleasantly surprised to see this video on the CBS YouTube channel, mocking Trump’s new AI “America.gov” website. There may yet be hope for CBS.

I’ve got a Peter Max poster from the early 70s that was on the wall in my hs biology classroom. Lots of pastel colors in the typical Peter Max style, with the words, “Life is so beautiful. Stay alive. Don’t smoke cigarettes.” I’ll post a picture if I can ever find it from storage.

So glad you enjoyed the dumplings! I’ve never had them with beer before. Will have to try that! My wife and I will be having apple dumplings again soon outselves, with Thanksgiving dinner! 😁

Well , this is nifty. I have found a whole new cohort to block on sight. It's the ebook haters. You know the ones - the posters who talk about "real" books, who never acknowledge readers with disabilities or failing eyesight or worsening arthritis. Who somehow think paper and glue make a text.

The tremolo is arguably the most beautiful, and undeniably the most difficult technique in a classical guitarist’s arsenal. When combined with the musical genius of Giulio Regondi (1822-1872) and a top guitar virtuoso, Kanahi Yamashita, the result is mesmerizing: Regondi’s Reverie-Nocturne, Op. 19

I’m always looking for bugs under outdoor chairs; you never know what might be hiding there. So, today I found what I think are two varieties of the two-spot ladybug (Adalia bipunctata), one a paler version of the other. They’re tiny little bugs, around 5mm. Alberta has ~75 ladybug species.

I used to keep fairly large preying mantids. The mantids would catch and eat all manner of insects, including large hornets, no problem. The blue jewel bee was the only thing the mantid couldn’t eat; the bee had a flexible stinger that it used on the mantid, and the mantid always quickly let it go

A bee mimic fly, Sericomyia sp., on a potentilla flower.

From Wikipedia:
Sercomyia are large flies with species that are bee mimics both short pile and long pile. Sericomyiine flower flies are common in boreal forests across the Holarctic region and southward at higher elevations into the Oriental and Neotropical regions. Sericomyia species have larvae of the rat-tailed maggot type, often found in ponds rich in decomposing vegetation where they filter out microorganisms as their food.

Here’s a recipe for Apple Dumplings that’s been in my family for almost 90 years. As you can see from the stains on the card it has been used extensively! I had to laminate the card to keep it from disintegrating! 😁 Great as a desert, especially after Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy!

Here’s the front gate as it was when I was a student there, versus the security gate there now. In the early 1970s the campus was basically wide open. Not so now. Different times.

In 1970 students moved into their new campus at Cairo American College, in the suburb of Maadi, Egypt. There were about 230 students in grades K-12 then. Today, with nearly 1,000 students, the campus looks very different, with bigger, and more modern classrooms and facilities.

I’ve been a Truman fan ever since seeing the one-man play “Give ‘em Hell Harry,” staring James Whitmore. After that I read loads of books about, and also by, Truman. I especially enjoyed (and recommend) his two-volume memoirs: “Year of Decisions” and “Years of Trial and Hope.”
