I've just made a simple cross stitch pattern version of my Oversight poem objects. It's available for free over on my ko-fi shop ko-fi.com/pardalote/shop. It's proper free - you can do what you like with the pattern, and anything you make with it. Go forth and stitch, print, mashup, whatever!

Plugging away on this little project, about 1/3rd the way done. Having fun making the components! #embroidery #textileart #handembroidery #beadwork #crossstitch
Ten decorative cross-stitched patches are arranged on a gray background. Each patch has a different shape, beaded edge, and stitched text, including “Wash your hands,” “Wipe your feet,” “Wait your turn,” “Check your messages,” “Do your homework,” “Do your hair,” “State your goals,” “Track your steps,” “Cross your legs,” “Pay your bills,” and “Mind your manners.”

I got a lot of questions about my Oversight series, including whether folks can reuse my words and/or make their own versions. So I wrote a short blog post about my process and potential reuse here: www.pardalotemakes.com/process/over... But TLDR: reuse is fine, go for it.
A stack of embroidered squares sitting on a grey surface. The top square reads ‘they hide your post’ in a stitched pixel font.

"Deep in Admiration" was a talk given at the conference Anthropocene: Arts of Living on a Dangerous Planet at UC Santa Cruz in May 2014. The text appears as the foreword to the collection Late in the Day: Poems 2010-2014 (published by PM Press).
"Science describes accurately from outside, poetry describes accurately from inside. Science explicates, poetry implicates. Both celebrate what they describe. We need the languages of both science and poetry to save us from merely stockpiling endless ‘information’ that fails to inform our ignorance or our irresponsibility."

Something I've been quietly stitching in the evenings: these zokin - cloths for cleaning, made from old tea towels. I recommend The Green Wrapper on youtube if you'd like to make zokin from your old cloths. #textiles #handembroidery #zokin
Three folded cloths in faded designs, with two skeins of embroidery thread sitting on top. The cloths are worn and stitched in simple geometric patterns of running stitch.

When I'm working on a new piece, I often create a 'side cloth' where I can do a few quick stitches to try out a colour, stitch or thread. It really helps me make decisions and not have so much unstitching. Do you sample as you work? #embroidery #handembroidery #canvaswork #needlepoint #sampling
Mesh canvas with sampled needlepoint stitches in various colours and threads. Mostly letters, but also some grids of crossed stitches.
