Painting carnivorous plants and listening to Dolly Parton this evening 💙🦋

Went out painting! I could have been a little less literal capturing how muddy the river is.

This little study is my first painting of the year! I'm working on simplifying shapes and being a little less literal. #pleinair #watercolor

I painted some cute lil Durham ornaments that I'll have at the rest of my markets this year 💚

I'm holding a wood slice ornament painted with a green and pink design inspired by Scandinavian folk art. A floral pattern surrounds a white Durham water tower. Durham is written on a pink banner at the bottom.

With the Durham Craft Market, I'm honoring those impacted by Hurricane Helene one year ago by raising money for ongoing rebuilding efforts in Western North Carolina. I've made a limited run of this watercolor painting I made of the mountains outside of Asheville ♥️ You can grab one from my website!

Work in progress Wednesday 🌻 It is Wednesday, right?

I made a silly little sticker. Keep up the work and keep up the treats that make you feel like it's worth it ✨

This sticker says "feeling fancy" in script font on a periwinkle background, and is surrounded by fancy little treats like Milano cookies, Ferraro rocher chocolates, and Bonne Maman strawberry preserves.

First market of the year today at NCMA! I always feel so rusty after the holidays, like I forget how to put my booth up and also how to interact with people

Welp guess I'll be using my slightly damaged postcard inventory to write my reps! Seems like a good way to use up stock I can't sell... and I can't miss out on using a UNC Chapel Hill design to advocate for preserving NIH funding.

I'm holding a few postcards with a design of Wilson Library at UNC Chapel Hill

Update from the snowfall and my pine drawing. Both are coming along nicely!

I'm having a rare magical moment today, drawing pines and watching the snow fall ❄️

Every day I think "this is the day my studio will stop being a wreck." Anyway. Today was also not that day.

My art studio is in disarray, with products and boxes and packaging everywhere.

Hot damn, if there's not anything better than holding your new product for the first time. (Also hot damn, what am I thinking releasing house warming cards at a moment when the whole metaphorical house is on fire)

I'm holding two new housewarming card designs. One has a vintage dollhouse design and one says "congrats on the new place" surrounded by a frame of lots of types of houses.

Yay, my Native Plants of NC stickers are back in stock! (another top notch job from @stickerninja.bsky.social 💜💜) And now they're in two sizes: one for your car bumper, one for your notebook, so you can easily be identified as a native plant nerd wherever you go.

I have had these files sitting around half-finished for a year. I finally buckled down this week to finish them and get them off to the printer!

I'm holding two mockups of housewarming cards, one featuring an illustration of vintage dollhouse and the other that has a design of many types of homes from brownstones to a camper.

Hello to everyone who's followed me over to Bluesky from Instagram! I'm excited (or is that actually trepidation?) about trying to run a Meta- and Amazon-free art business in 2025. I look forward to connecting with you on Bluesky, my newsletter, and always and forever most importantly, in person 💙

I did plein air painting for the first time today. It taught me some things I don't know about watercolor, like for example that I don't know anything about watercolor 🙃

Some artists leave us too young. But they leave behind a wonderful collection of work and a wistful sense of what could have been. One such artist is Virginia Frances Sterrett (1900-1931). This is her story...
